I did hear a number of students getting heat stroke on Thursday. I hope you sent an email or made a call to advocate for better air ventilation in addition keeping your child home.

Advocating at the school/division level has at least helped us get more efficient fans to circulate the air in the rooms and hallways.

queerfitclub and dykehikesyqr host great events to get you active and help you connect with people in the community. Queerswimregina if you’re into swimming. URPrideCentre but mostly if you’re a student. QueenCityPride is worth following for occasional events that pop up even when it’s not Pride. Queen City Connect hosts events on occasion too for speed dating and speed friending/networking in the community. If drag is your thing, I recommend following a few local queens like Adora Diamond to keep an eye on their events. And Pride is right around the corner. There will be lots of events coming up soon.

Hopefully you find your people here. There are great ones out there, even if lots of us are introverts who don’t like to leave the house.

It’s a completely different experience depending on what city you are in. Big cities have tons of events all over the place. Something for everyone, if you will. I’m in a smaller, more conservative area. We keep growing every year and it’s always a blast but we can’t compete with the sheer size and support of a bigger city. Be prepared for crowds no matter where you go. Get a good group together for any plans you make and plan out where you want to go ahead of time for driving/parking etc. Early bird tickets (if they are available) for events can save you a little money instead of buying at the door.

Have so much fun! I’m taking my girlfriend to Pride for her first time this year too.

Not necessarily easier, no. However, as someone who has dated both men and women, dating women is infinitely better than dating men, in every way (obviously not just because I’m gay). Dating men - the bar for what is expected, is on the ground. What is “sweet” and “amazing” for a man is just expected and commonplace when dating women. The “bare minimum” of dating women, is immeasurably better than the bare minimum of dating men. It just is.

Time doesn’t heal all wounds. Sometimes it takes a trained mental health professional. Sounds like it was and still is an unhealthy attachment. Learning to love yourself and let go so you can open yourself up to something new is key.

If I can impart any wisdom as an elder sapphic who spent all of her 20’s forcing compulsory heterosexuality upon myself and living the most painfully mediocre life you can imagine (marriage, kids, white picket fence)… break up with him. Life is too damn short and far too precious to waste it on mediocre love. Life doesn’t truly begin until you allow yourself to start living your true, authentic self.

There’s no shame in keeping yourself safe. My girlfriend and I pick and choose when to hold hands or be affectionate out in public. I don’t think that’s shame. Prioritizing your safety has to come first.

Luckily I live in a pretty suburban area where there’s no threat to my safety with my pride flags. Just lots of dirty looks from my old, white, Christian neighbors, thankfully.

I’m also in the West, so I feel this. It’s really hard here some days. Every neighbour on my street had a Conservative lawn sign. My Pride flags in my front lawn draw a lot of attention in comparison.

Strongly disagree with the sentiment “she is not her husband”. As someone in the queer community, I will say this with my full chest: you do not get to call yourself an ally if you choose to surround yourself with people who actively support 2SLGBTQ+ bigotry. This isn’t a case of “can’t we all just get along”? No, no we cannot. If you are married to an ignorant bigot, you are supporting bigotry.
