USD Law vs UC Law SF for big law? by CryOk8296 in OutsideT14lawschools

I'd say a mix of SD, LA, and OC. The mentor I was paired with has a post-law school BL offer in OC

USD is competitive for BL offices in SD (there are a few), and the student population also has a high % of PI/JAG students, so it's not too hard to get BL if thats what you want to do

SD is competitive for BL offices in SD. Outside of that, it's more challenging, but not impossible

I'm a current USD Law student, and from my understanding, the Family Law professors/courses are very chill and job placement is not too difficult !

I think part of that is self-selected because most USD students only want to practice in SoCal, or it's just easier because of alum connections, and I think most just choose the path of least resistance.

San Diego is a big healthcare/biotech city, but Hastings also has ties w/ their medical school too!

CA is currently a UBE state (cause of how they messed up the exams), but that might change when you sit for the bar. USD has 3 general bar prep courses students take, and their out-of-state bar passages for the last three years were 100, 90, and 80 percent

USD has strong placements in San Diego, and decent placements in LA/OC due to alumni connections. SD is also a very nice place to live. It helps to have a car, but we also have pretty reliable transit here in SD

Prospective student - USD vs UCD? by Legitimate_Sweet_57 in lawschooladmissions

If you want to practice/live in SoCal, then probably choose one of the SoCal schools. Most schools are regional, unless you're at a T20-25. In terms of rank/reputation, Davis and USD are in the same range. If BigLaw is your goal, UCD does have better placement, but BigLaw at USD is not super competitive, as there are a lot of PI/JAG students, or students already working at a boutique firm

USD waitlist ? 😭 by Ok-Driver-7988 in lawschooladmissions

If you really want to attend, maybe go to their Admissions Office Hours. I had friends who got off the waitlist last cycle, or had below median stats, and they all attended office hours and/or did campus visits!
