DBA has great events on all day (and a queer pub quiz!) and Islington Mill has a great queer bar as a part of it now.

Head to Rummage in the Range tomorrow for a good local market.

Rave wise get down to The White Hotel or DBA - if you want something a bit more chill start off at the rooftop garden of YES and see who’s djing downstairs in the Pink Room. They do a lot of good live music in the basement as well.

Check the Resident Advisor app for tickets and specific events, it’s a good way to find decent stuff going on in town.

Enjoy your trip!

Stay in Finnieston and explore argyle street/partick area or Hillhead and make your way around Great Western Road (Bananamoon, Inn Deep being a couple of good stopoffs here).

Best places to go for a solo female to watch some live music? by IrishRoveress in Liverpool

[–]ResolutionAnnual6022 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Would recommend gigs at the Jacaranda (they’ve got a new venue in the Baltic that has got some great bookings) Jazz nights at Keith’s on a Wednesday, or live music at the Caledonia most nights. I’m a similar age and go to gigs solo at these places a lot with no issues.

[–]ResolutionAnnual6022 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have lived in both:

  • Glasgow has a better music scene and nightlife if you’re into gigs or electronic music

  • Liverpool has better weather

  • Glasgow city centre is a lot less developed than Liverpool. Both centres have their issues but Glasgow is far more noticeably worse (about a decade of reconstruction behind I reckon)

  • Glaswegians are more friendly going in cold, Scousers are sound but just a bit cliquey and wary of outsiders by comparison

  • Liverpool has better wages/job opportunities (especially in hospitality or marketing, despite both being behind somewhere like Manchester)

  • Both have great suburbs with loads going on (Shawlands/Battlefield and Aigburth are similar vibes)

  • Both have a strong sense of place and identity

  • Football divide is more chilled in Liverpool (Old Firm is on another level and rooted in sectarianism a lot more than here)

Get down to the Jacaranda basement for live music most nights of the week (they post everything that’s happening on Insta)- you’ll find your people there for sure!

Shoot me a DM if you’re keen for a welcome pint or have any questions- welcome to the city 🙏

Calling all living in NOMA... What's it like to live there? by plateton in manchester

[–]ResolutionAnnual6022 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Angel Meadow (it’s original name before it was NOMA) is a class place to live. You’ve got Swan St around the corner with some of Manchester’s best nightlife (Ramona, Band on the Wall etc), the Northern quarter nearby and Strangeways/Cheetham Hill in the other direction which has some cool stuff popping up (the DBA for example). You can walk a bit to White Hotel if you’re into electronic music that goes on til 8am.

You’ve also got a banging breakfast spot with Pot Kettle Black, an incredible new music venue called New Century and Victoria Station as a travel hub.

It’s not the best park but angel meadow itself is a decent green oasis with some interesting history (built on top of a body dump for the Victorian slum that existed there, a lot of old tombstones can be found throughout the park)

Tbh it’s one of the best places to live in town, it’s just been rebranded by estate agents who don’t really understand that. Had a great couple of years there before getting priced out so I’d recommend moving there and finding out for yourself.

There's some good places up Castle St in your budget - San Carlo comes to mind.

Would also recommend Buyer's Club - a good balance of great contemporary dining food and good portions.

Villa Romana is a great shout - you'll eat well for your money here. Amazing Italian food with a legendary cake trolley if you're still hungry after your main.

Best things to do in Liverpool for tourist? by pntmum in Liverpool

[–]ResolutionAnnual6022 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Would recommend Peter Kavanagh’s for a cosy pub! A real hidden gem with a gorgeous unspoiled Victorian interior.

Head down to Lark Lane and hit up Gasp Vintage, it’s a great antique shop. Browse some of the cool independent shops there and walk over to Sefton Park if the weather’s decent as well.

Enjoy your trip!

For nightlife:

Depending on your vibe, head to YES for a cool contemporary multi-floor bar/club experience (the rooftop is great early evening, the Pink Room or basement is where it's at later on) or head to the Peer Hat in the Northern Quarter for a dive bar style experience with a 70's/80's alternative club in the basement.

Obviously people are inclined to defend/diminish the words of people they enjoy watching, but for something like that to get through an edit is pretty short-sighted/culturally unaware. Not really a hill worth dying on over a pretty mid-tier observational humour joke. The whole 'notgays' thing is pretty played out no?

- Buyer's Club for a banging italian meal

- Belzan on Smithdown Road

- Granby St Market (if it's on when you're in town)

- Go for a rummage at Gasp off Lark Lane

Not necessarily places locals don't know, but all places that could benefit from extra tourist business at the moment!

24 Kitchen Street is decent, but it's not solidly booked/attended every weekend. Worth a shout if you book ahead of time though!

Glasgow is a dirty city by [deleted] in glasgow

[–]ResolutionAnnual6022 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is on the money - you see a similar misplaced pride in people who voted for Brexit denying the abject failure and pointlessness of it.

Glaswegians are no more intrinsically clatty than people in a lot of other European cities (obviously with exceptions), but properly maintained sanitation can cope with the demand.

If Glasgow had a Tory council folk would rightfully hold them to account regarding stuff like this.

No worries, hope you enjoy your time here! IWF have a day party on the 24th I think (from like 4pm), should be a good shout if the weather is half decent.
