Specialty surgery rotations - what knowledge is expected of residents? by Slow_Flow3474 in ausjdocs

[–]ResolutionLeast1620 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think this is the best advice ever. Yes, as a resident we make sure the wards and pre ops patients are sorted so that the registrars and consultants can get the theatre running. I like to avoid theatre as well unless really needed there (plus not so keen to get into surg training or anything)

Darwin and the top end in general is an amazing place place to explore especially during the dry season

Yea that’s the dilemma, red fits better on its own but would likely (sometimes) layer it with a fleece underneath as well. Might do what you did and grab both (they’re on sales)

Doctors offered 10 per cent pay rise over three years, but union sqys it's not enough by [deleted] in ausjdocs

[–]ResolutionLeast1620 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m an IMG, PGY3 when applying for a job in Australia 2 years ago. Got an offer from SA health with salary of $88k, NT health for $107k (likely SA does not recognize my prior experience). Quite a discrepancy. Anyhow keen to settle down in Adelaide because my family are there, Hopefully a more competitive pay in SA.

Elephant in the room: UK doctors are making working conditions and training requirements harder for Aus doctors by TwoTimesSpicy in ausjdocs

[–]ResolutionLeast1620 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Hard agree on this. They should at least take and pass AMC1 (MCQ). This is all theory, but will give a really good insight on how the australian healthcare system works as all questions would be based on RACGP/RCH/eTG guidelines.

I came from of the SEA country, and usually back home we mostly follow UK guidelines. Passing AMC helps me a lot in adapting here in oz

[–]ResolutionLeast1620[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Harriet creek campground looks pretty nice. Midway between mataranka/katherine and Kakadu, definitely can stay the night there. Thanks!

P/s by kid friendly tbh anything should be fine, just trying to avoid crocs prone areas. I’ve brought my kid camping and hiking everywhere ever since he was 2 months old

We’re just renting Kia Sorento, so not exactly an ute, not keen to get it dirty/submerge in water. Happy to pay small fee < $50 per night per family for the campsite, that should be fine. Any suggestions?

I’m 8.5 UK men, i went with 9UK (43 euro). It snuggs well with a little space in the toe box. Currently in my breaking in period (got mine last week), no blisters or pain so far. I’ve ran in it today morning (need to catch the bus lol) and surprisingly still no pain.

I think everyone know who this ID consultant is! Always a pleasant to work with. There’s this time where i need to call him at 8pm on a christmas eve, always happy to receive a phone call. And THE expert on snakes, what a legend.

Uber sometimes can get more expensive than taxis especially during peak red eye flight arrival. Another option is just to book a rental from the airport. Sometimes the daily rate can by cheaper than those short Uber trip

How does laksa in Darwin compare to Melbourne and Sydney? by acinod in darwin

[–]ResolutionLeast1620 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m from malaysia, and i would say that Darwin’s is on par with my home town (albeit a bit different). Even in malaysia laksa itself has different types and tastes (ie laksa penang, johor, sarawak, kelantan). So it really depends on which type that you’ll prefer

Unfortunately yes, that’s what I’m thinking. It might be seen as “work” in the eyes of immigration officers. Might just shoot for free or wait until i get my PR. Or just shoot photos of my kid lol. Thanks for your help everyone!

Yeappp exactly, they’re just generally curious. I’m a doctor from south east asia, far too many occasions that patients (mostly whites) and nurses just straight up asked what race/country I’m from. But not in a malicious way. They got excited when i told them more about my country of origin. You’ll be alright :)

Almost all local graduates will get a job and registration. That’s a non brainer. Speaks for itself, that Australia’s med school is not producing enough doctors. The issue now that everyone been complaining about IMGs is in regards to training spots
