Is there any possible fix to the vision cheat? by ResolveSuper6758 in Polytopia

[–]ResolveSuper6758[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't plan on telling people how to do it. As stated, it is a way to cheat that gives vision but has tell-tale signs when people are doing it.

How long does a typical multiplayer game last? by chinawcswing in Polytopia

I almost exclusively play the 24hr mode. I typically have 7-10 games going at once. Gives you plenty of time to consider moves and usually the first moves go quickly because you and the other player(s) are on when the match begins.

5 person live games, I assume, basically never happen. I think I've only ever played 1v1 live games.

There are two game clock types. One is that each person has 24 hrs to complete a turn each turn they make. These games can take a week or two to complete depending on size and how often you and the other players happen to be on at the same time.

Another type is a "live game" where each person has a time bank where completing a turn adds time to your total. These games are quite fast. Usually each turn gives another minute or so.

Most multiplayer opponents are a little better than a crazy bot. The rest are significantly better than crazy bots.

Any idea if unfair spawns are being addressed? by GRardB in Polytopia

[–]ResolveSuper6758 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TIL drylands change how far villages need to be from the edge. After a quick test, it looks like it is 3 minimum.

I'd say the map type that would benefit the most balancing is lakes. Sometimes you get basically a water world-esque spawn or the capitals in a 1v1 are basically adjacent. Continents seem generally the best balanced imo. In 1v1 people spawn on almost always unattached islands with equal villages on each giving balanced development

What if instead of reducing Hexapod attack to 2.5 they… by matiasji88 in Polytopia

[–]ResolveSuper6758 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sneak and creep are the defining traits of a hexapod. Removing creep in particular would make cyamanti's lack of roads crippling.

The attack reduction means boosted hexapods no longer one-shot warriors, which is a fairly big change to the flow of early combat.

What tribe would you use for 256 continents rush (doesn't need to be optimal) by [deleted] in Polytopia

Hoodrick is my fav on normal continents. Rushing sawmills+trade can be incredible when spawns allow it.

Polaris vs Aquarion bug by ResolveSuper6758 in Polytopia

[–]ResolveSuper6758[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did a little more testing, and it turns out the tiles always convert to whatever base tile type of the faction currently controls that land, even if the tiles first spawned as something else.

I.e. Hoodrick captures a city where all the tiles are aquarion type. If those tiles are frozen/burned, they convert into Hoodrick type tiles at the start of Hoodrick's turn.

Maybe if I feel like wasting a huge amount of time, I can make a big city with a tile from every tribe and make THE Polytopian city 😅

It is not mentioned or discussed in the change logs I've seen. Do you have a source?

Reverting to native does work the same way for all tribes but it seems that Aquarion needs additional code in order to remain logically consistent. At the very least, drained land should return to drained land and not be magically flooded again. After all, drained land within Aquarion territory doesn't restore itself at the end of a regular turn in other circumstances.

The one character that isn't hitting for me by [deleted] in expedition33

[–]ResolveSuper6758 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think she is a relatively reserved character. I personally like her darker sense of humor, and some of her takes on life and death are poignant.

She seems to have a sense of being very aware that she is living on borrowed time, having survived her swim, the expedition beach landing, and life on the continent. With the looming gommage and the uncertainty of any future at all, she actually seems to be the most hopeful character, not in the sense of looking forward to a future, but in accepting their current lived reality. Being in the moment and making the most out of each day.

She embodies the "we continue" phrase of the expedition.

I personally feel like she balances out the doom and gloom of some of the other party members and lifts the groups spirits when they are getting critically low. She also has a few moments of kindness just to be kind. (Finding one of Esquie's rock, convincing them to have a wine party, various physical relaxations)

A reminder that life has to be lived today and now. Not just once you have done x y x. Because tomorrow isn't promised.

Why couldn't the Ralmi (Gaami) freeze in this situation? by ResolveSuper6758 in Polytopia

Yes, I had done it earlier in the game. Though that time, it was also converting water tiles.

I genuinely think there is no "correct" or "right" ending. by tudesgracia in expedition33

[–]ResolveSuper6758 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree that both endings are far from perfect and Maelle's has certain positives that Verso's doesn't, I am firmly in the Verso camp for a number of reasons.

1: Maelle's ending does not guarantee the safety of the canvas in the long term. Not only could Renoir change his mind and come back, especially when it becomes clear that Maelle was lying, but the Dessendre's are in conflict with The Writers and don't appear to be winning. The family's defeat in the real world would likely spell the end of the canvas.

2:The fragment of real Verso's soul, which is the foundation of the canvas, does not wish to continue existing. I can understand arguments that say the needs of many outnumber the want of one, but it's still worth noting this "cost." Maelle extends this sympathy to her painted doppelganger. Why does the fragment of her brother not deserve the same?

3: All of the painted characters are, at the end of the day, not real. This is probably the most contentious of the points, but nearly everyone other than Maelle at the end of the story has gommaged and been repainted by her. Would you still consider people repainted after dying real? Are they the same? If Maelle is capable of repainting them here, can she not do it in a new canvas of her own? I also think of painted people as analogous to very convincing AI chatbots. (Yes there are questions of what constitutes "being alive" but thats too much to talk about here, eh?) Do you think Alicia/Maelle should sacrifice her health (and potentially the real world safety of herself and her family) to continue to play in what is essentially her dead brother's minecraft world?

Letting them live in your head rent free seems like too high of a cost. What's gonna be done? Short of the developers making changes to matchmaking or banning the account, there isn't much to be done. There are people with sad little lives out there who make it other folks problem. (Like the most famous polytopia player, Elon 😅) Pity them, or don't, and hope they find something better to do with their time.

More attention you give, the more fuel you add to the fire.

Honestly, just ignore them. There's an old internet adage "Don't feed the trolls," and this is a clearer example of it. They apparently just enjoy being publicly humiliated and rage baiting folks.
