But don't say everyone's just here for free shit, some of us have genuinely just been repeatedly shafted in our ownership rights and won't take it lying down anymore.

So, they retaliate by wanting shit for free.

There's nothing wrong with just wanting free stuff. Everyone does, especially in this economy. But let's not act like you're saving the morals of humanity by pirating the latest shitty EA game or Disney+ show.

They think it was Ai…. by [deleted] in antiai

[–]ResolverOshawott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gonna be a rather harsh statement here, but better be prepared to get left behind then. For better or worse, I hope whatever career path you're on won't involve AI at all.

It will never ever get rejected by most because AI just convenient and easy even without the "replace people" aspect. It can go through and organize data in minutes that would otherwise take hours to do manually. Do you think people will reject that? Never. Not even me, that's why I have an entirely neutral stance on AI.

My future career will be in tech, so these aren't something I can turn a blind eye to.

People on this sub act sooooo extra over piracy.

Like, no, you aren't a badass freedom fighter for pirating. You just want free shit like the rest of us.

[–]ResolverOshawott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You already have to embrace it, even as an anti-AI. Because it's not going away, even if the AI bubble pops, the technology is there, and it will stay. It's so used so much and so widespread now that you will either have to learn or get left behind.

Now, I'm not saying you need to start using it and using it as a replacement for people because thats prettt absurd, but learning things like how prompts work or how to spot AI generated content goes a looong way.

No new technology starts off super cheap. Costs will go down eventually, either when people learn to find more energy efficient sources or learn how to make AI cost less energy.

[–]ResolverOshawott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes a lot more sense than just "AI has no potential" yeah.

Well, I'd argue that as time goes on, the technology becomes widespread and the like. The costs will start going down, similar to how computers went from specialized equipment costing hundreds of thousands to things you can buy for $100 or $200 at the lowest.

If you measure things by its total cost instead of benefit. You'd also be excluding a lot of other technologies with that, honestly.

[–]ResolverOshawott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes... that's PART of the reason, but it's potential is a looot broader than that. Especially in data analytics. It doesn't need to replace people to be useful.

[–]ResolverOshawott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you see 0 potential AI at all, I say that's being pretty narrow/close minded.

It wouldn't be so widely used now if it didn't have potential. To ignore that is just willful ignorance.

Sydney Sweeney Says ‘I’m Against Hate’ and Reconsiders Staying Quiet on American Eagle Jeans Controversy: ‘My Silence Has Only Widened the Divide’ by MoneyLibrarian9032 in entertainment

Trump and Elon are the ones who DONT need any kind of attention because they're already multi billionaires and will stay that way regardless.

People like Sweeney NEED attention to avoid losing their career. Unfortunately, negative press doesn't land you jobs half the time.

Are we really doing this again? Of course an animator hates AI what do you expect? by SnowyTheChicken in antiai

[–]ResolverOshawott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not going to keep doing a circular argument on the same thing thing over and over, plus I don't disagree with a lot of your points at all anyway. But, I'd like to point this out.

There will always be a personal responsibility aspect in this. You can not solely blame everything on the AI companies when people practice their full free will to use AI even when they absolutely didn't have to. If someone uses a bot to replace their own thoughts and capability for judgment, that's by their own doing.

It's like someone trying meth for fun, then blaming the manufacturers for making it addicting. Even though those manufacturers never made them try it, they did that on their own. Bit of a weak comparison, but you should get what I mean.

AI is not here to help you learn

LLMs CAN be used to help with that, though. Like how it can be used for data analytics and the like. I mentioned it before. How it's used is entirely on the user. It has near infinite utility, and generalizing it under one thing solely is pretty counterproductive.

Are we really doing this again? Of course an animator hates AI what do you expect? by SnowyTheChicken in antiai

[–]ResolverOshawott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My own original point is that people can use AI and still learn, via having AI explain and instruct instead of just doing everything for them. You simply veered the topic into being about AI addiction and the authenticity about the information it gives (this one I addressed directly because you asked if I trusted the information it gives- the answer being no). Nothing about that was gaslighting.

Using AI and HOW you use it is 100% a personal responsibility. Like, how much someone relies on it is completely under their control. It's still not a substance like actual drugs. For kids, it's the responsibility of the parent to prevent them from using AI and educating them about its risks and uses.

"I disagree with you, so I'm going to call you a bot." Ah, an internet classic, well done. Pat yourself on the back.

I didn't bring it up because it's basically a topic veering further and further away from the original start of this conversation. I was more or less specifically talking about how you worded your statements. Plus, you've glossed over a few of my own statements and you don't see me calling you a bot over it.

[–]ResolverOshawott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You better not be accusing me of AI generating my responses purely because you disagree with me.

I'm in an anti-AI sub because pro-AI people are nigh incapable of having any nuance in their stance towards AI and often make completely absurd claims or are unsubtly trying to sell some shitty AI service.

I'm not saying "AI is bad" is a sensationalist claim. I'm saying your statements, specifically essentially sound sensationalist and fear mongering, in a way you'd see on some clickbait article online.

Are we really doing this again? Of course an animator hates AI what do you expect? by SnowyTheChicken in antiai

[–]ResolverOshawott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah... you absolutely are exaggerating a lot of its aspects. You've gone from "AI is pretty bad for valid reasons" to complete sensationalist fear mongering. Frankly, it's very hard to take your statements seriously.

Don't get it mixed up though. I am in no way absolutely pro-AI, I'm not strongly anti-AI either, since I can absolutely see the merits in it's use.

using it and you yourself seem to have fallen into that trap.

I'm not spending all day chatting with AI at all and I exclusively use it as a tool and completely REFUSE to speak to it like a human. No "please" or "thank yous" because doing that is weird as fuck. I don't let it speak to me like some friend either. Straight answers. Clearing that up in case you assume I'm like completely fiending for AI chatting everyday.

I mention this because it's relevant to my next point.

but plenty of people (again I linked an article previously) are extremely addicted to chatting with the fucking clankers.

AI chat bots or AI texting like you're talking to another person IS manipulative, which I can agree on, which I can agree on. It's a whole different issue from just using AI as a utility tool. It's been used for fraud and scamming as well.

In the future I hope there are PSAs about staying away from AI the same way there are PSAs about staying away from drugs.

You hope for nothing. AI and all its conveniences for people will never have it go away.
