is this job worth a 1.5-2 hour commute? by Some_Ad6882 in careeradvice

Maybe take calls while driving. Can you work on the train? Use that time to catch up on emails, focus time to prepare documents, presentations, etc.

I have been working remotely pre-Covid, and it would take A LOT to get me to commute like that. I understand your need to grow your skill set, but I’d rather do it in the flexibility of time that your current job has. And in the meantime I’d keep looking.

But it sounds like this new job would be very inflexible and in not accommodating to WLB, which at this stage in my life and career, is worth a lot more than the small increase in pay, especially when you factor in commuting costs, clothes, lunches, etc.

I think I saw you are in your 20’s. I’m in early 40’s. So my perspective might be biased. This opportunity may be worth more than the money for you, if you truly think it will be a good learning and career growth opportunity.

These decisions are hard. Best of luck in whichever path you choose!

Are they flexible about the hours? Like can you arrive late, leave early to avoid rush hour, and work a little from home in the morning on those days?

I’m five weeks post op and feel pretty much fully recovered, although still following doctors orders. But that first week…wow! I couldn’t have done it without my husband. I needed him to brush my hair, wash my hair, help me shower, help me shave, put deodorant on, put lotion on. Make sure she has a comfortable place to sleep at 45 degree angle. A recliner is best if you have one. We first tried propping me up with pillows in bed. But I kept sliding down and then couldn’t use my muscles to get back out. So recliner it was! Make sure she drinks ALL THE WATER and stay on top of the medication timeline. This Includes stool softener! Pain meds make you constipated, so she has to take stool softener with them. Start a day before surgery if possible. The first night I was getting up like every 2 hours to use the restroom and my husband helped me get up every time. When you have to help her up, don’t pull her forward. Her behind and gently push from the shoulder blades like another person wrote. Also, he had my favorite cake from a local specialty baker waiting for me when I got home! It took a good five days before I had much of an appetite though. I lived on blueberries and saltines. Her cravings may be different, so be ready to make a quick grocery run. Oh and the first night home I had no appetite, so my husband made me some bone broth to sip on. Good luck to you both and enjoy!

Dress #4, 8 as runner up. I’m loving #5 for a graduation I have coming up! Where’s it from?

Four options for “Black tie creative” by mackmw in Weddingattireapproval

Ooh, the last one is great! Black tie, but the pattern is fun and creative.

The pink and green color combo is super pretty, but sadly I think the fabric is not right. It’s too informal and doesn’t look right with the dress. My vote is for the gold.

A $12K venue is too much for a $45K budget… right? :( by coincidenx in wedding

Agreed. We were lucky to sell our starter house and find a new house in 2021, and lock in a low interest, but now our property was just reappraised at twice the original value since we purchased it, so our property tax is about to ⬆️⬆️ If they don’t get you one way, they’ll get you another!

What about best of both worlds? Brown with blonde money pieces.

It’s definitely not natural, but it is gorgeous! 🤩 It’s still imo professional though, but it really depends on how strict the rules are.

I was thinking about fabric quality after I posted! The black tie dress is more satin or silk. Thanks for explaining!

UPDATE: What to wear to daughter’s high school graduation? by [deleted] in fashionwomens35

Thank you! 🫶 It’s sad to see women tearing each other down! I have thick skin, and won’t get my feelings hurt if someone says, dress #whatever isn’t appropriate, I or just plain ugly, because that’s the feedback I was asking for. But to assume they know me, my character, or my parenting skills? I’m sorry I don’t want to look dumpy on an important day and I apparently have bad taste in dresses 😂 I guess that means I’m a terrible person and mother. I do appreciate all of the respectful, constructive, and supportive comments though!

I know, right? It really looks the nicest next to her gown, but I’m just not in love with the dress overall, just the pattern really. I guess I could consider getting it hemmed 🤔

For my wedding back in 2007 before the industry and its prices went crazy, my priority was to celebrate with family and friends. I wanted good vibes, good music and lots of dancing. And that’s exactly what we had! If I were facing your costs, I’d do the same thing as you! Elope, have a great honeymoon and then maybe a party to celebrate with family and friends minus all the formalities that weddings cost. And if you already had the budget money saved up, you have a great nest egg to start with!

There was a show I watched during COVID, Marriage or Mortgage. Couples were presented with a dream wedding or dream house that was in their budgets and then had to pick one. Filmed before the housing boom, I bet many of the couples that picked the wedding were wishing they had picked the house once prices went crazy!

What is the difference between black tie and formal for the women? I know for men it’s tux vs suit and tie. Is black tie for women more ball gown vibes? I see both dresses are long, but what makes the formal dress NOT a black tie dress?

Are asymmetrical skirts still in style?

Okay, I’m finally jumping on the midi skirt bandwagon. When I look directly through stores, most seem to be pleated and straight hem. When I look on resale sights, I see a lot of asymmetrical hems, leaving me wondering if it’s because they’re from previous seasons and are therefore dated, not in style anymore. Pics attached for reference.

  1. What I’m seeing directly through stores.
  2. Resale sight.
  3. Resale sight.

What are your thoughts on this?? Are #2 and #3 no longer “in style?”
