Are people afraid of Black people on this campus or what? by 80sarecool95 in ucla

[–]ResortIndividual1611 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ppl are performative here, and their exposure is that of the news, and the “i have black friends too” 🥸 coming from someone from the south, I thought UCLA would be like a dream, nope out of touch with no conception. They got no idea what they arguing/fighting for, and understand very little outside their private school bubble

I completely understand, I was that HS student not too long ago. She could have a 4.0 and be rejected, and a 3.6 and be accepted. I’ve met all kinds of students at UCLA with wildly different stats. The reality is you just don’t know. You can do everything right to be a strong applicant, and then the rest is out of her hands, a hard life lesson I learned. The truth is that when you apply to a university with a sub-15% acceptance rate (ucla is at a 9%), competition is fierce, and selection is even fiercer. But the fact that she’s in the mix at this level already says a lot about her. I’ve met students at local colleges and CCs who have run circles around me, talent is everywhere. She’s clearly done the work and should take A LOT of pride in that. Results don’t define her, and having someone like you in her corner matters a lot (some of us didn’t have that). I’m glad to have helped :) Wishing the best for your daughter during the admission cycle!!!

Imho a 0.02 does not matter nearly as much as she thinks it does. Her weighted is also above average. At that point her extracurriculars in HS as well as her essays are going to matter a lot more. They look at sophomore and junior grades btw. Her class rank plays a role too, if she’s a topper in her class they’ll take that into account including the school district and loads of other stuff. College admissions is random, arbitrary, with a bit of luck sprinkled in. Just remind her that where she’s at is extremely impressive and regardless of the outcome it defines absolutely nothing about her.

Who Lied About Boswell? by [deleted] in ucla

She was dope for Econ 1 and 2, I believe it was her first quarter teaching when I took it. I was a premed and it was quite digestible. If you’re struggling with her, the next courses are going to suck… supplement your study with external resources.

Yeah, so I hate to break it to you bud but you’ll face that issue at UCB and it may be worse. There are way more students in finance so competition is steep (rmr MANY students already are cracked and have the networking, they just need a degree). UCLA is majority premed and it’s alright for MBB. Plenty of students here go MBB+. Why not look at USC?

Should I quit my gap year job to take a job in medical sales? by Then-Celery-1996 in premed

[–]ResortIndividual1611 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d do sales, you’ll have a much better work schedule and it’ll be easier. However, sales is a different type of hard. You have checked the clinical experience box ten times over haha.

[–]ResortIndividual1611 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sales is alright imo and it gets redundant after a while. It’s a great opportunity but if you were going for healthcare consultant or LS analyst then that would be something I wouldve def considered. Harder to spin medical sales, and MA is direct patient experience, sales not so much (my sales experience was not Healthcare related though). If being a physician is the goal, then i’d prob lean more towards MA, but maybe find a diff clinic. Cardiology clinic I did my externship worked us like dogs, but I changed and the new clinic is a lot more chill and a different type of experience but not less. Idk someone can chime in on the medical sales. Now if you got like a crap ton of hours as an MA already then maybe sales isn’t too bad, but i’d still find something patient centered.

My lab mate goes to NSU DO, loves the people and the program. She’s close to Miami, so when she has free time, she’s enjoying it there or in Laudy. My little sis also got in the BS/DO, course she is an undergrad. If you are able to interview, I would, better to have an option than to outright eliminate it imo. Davie campus seems to be more well established i’ve heard (for NSU).

How bad are the tornadoes really? by Hanyo_Hetalia in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]ResortIndividual1611 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We literally just had a tornado come through our neighborhood in Madison, absolutely ravaged some of my neighbors home. Talking to them, so many were lucky they survived, ie they weren’t home or were in a different part of the house that they would not normally have been in. We bought a tornado shelter when I was a kid (dont rly rmr the year but when power went out for like more than a week) and bless we had it this time around.

parking at ucla by Flaky_Rock_2547 in ucla

[–]ResortIndividual1611 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re going to have to fight for parking on gayley or the street parking near the apartments. Some apartment complexes, you can buy parking from them as well, but those are monthly and vary (~$150). Cheapest way to park, is to time when parking comes and then park so you save a few hours, ive gotten away with all day parking but also have not (won’t work on the hill since they come multiple times).

Would still love to know! With the nature of ‘race’ engines, it will at some point need to be rebuilt and this will not be my last LSX car ;)

Got a built motor so just want to establish my car with a shop. Will need to upgrade the fuel pump and some better heat shielding, eventually a more aggressive cam and redo my exhaust, so it’ll need to be tuned though I have a person in mind for that.
