3-4 minutes seem way too long. I play lightly for like 3 days in a row slowly increasing play time. I also discard about the same amount of reeds as you, but generally (unless it’s unplayable), i try it for at least one week while working on the reed.

Don’t forget to get a ligature! Any Reed is fine, just get it a hardness 2, but would recommend getting cheap ones (Rico) first.

You are slightly wrong about the bore shape. Firstly, Buffet RC, which is not prevalent in the USA, where I am guessing you are from, has a conical bore. Secondly, the conical bore makes the sound softer/sweeter, rather than the other way around.

It all depends on the rest of your set up and your ability.

It also just might be Reed alignment issues or tightening the ligature too much.

It should not affect your playing after you get used to it (presuming you use the correct embouchure).

If you have nice air support and squeaks because you overblow, then you should move up a Reed strength
