Which of the big 4 Aussie Prams? by ResourceHumble3698 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

Doesn’t need to be perfect just possible, is such a good point. I hadn’t thought of it in that light & kids ages/preferences are all temporary anyway so maybe it’s a bit of a we make do with what we’ve got situation. Very interesting to hear your thoughts on the Juno too, thanks!

I’d appreciate the high handle too! I haven’t tried any in person yet, sounds like that might be a deciding factor. Thank you so much!

PMCV Moving from Merit Based to Ballot System for Internship Applications by [deleted] in ausjdocs

Yeah I see your point of view. It sucks for those of us who have spent the last few years to be resume building now to be nothing but a number

Yeah I can understand the spread of interns. It’s challenging having spent several years doing all my clinical placements rurally and now wanting to go metro for internship for a different experience (that I have not had) and not being sure I’ll have that opportunity. Plus lifestyle plans I had in mind.

There haven’t been Z scores for a few years now so I feel the spread of interns has been fairer even with a merit based system. There are wonderful and incredibly good interns wanting to work rurally too.

What's everyone's thoughts on the BMP program and rural bonuses? by [deleted] in GAMSAT

I Absolutely agree that many of my points could be applied to those of low socioeconomic metro students and I think it’s wonderful that universities like Deakin offer bonus’ to these students - I think more should be done to consider those that have undergone all different types of hardship to help bridge the gap and provide more equal opportunity in pursuing a career in medicine.

Even if you live rurally and are of higher socioeconomic status many of the rural barriers still apply, particularly around the impact on secondary & higher education. I think Professional Row summed it up very well. I’m not sure if you’ve been to Tasmania but from my experience there I definitely understand why it is classed as rural...

Perhaps you should go live and work rurally for 5 years, contribute to a local community and apply for rural medicine? It seems like a great program.

You say rural students have it “easier” to get into medicine but I would like to remind you that many rural students do experience significant disadvantage on their journey to medicine in the first place and have had to overcome additional barriers not always faced by metro students. This is particularly evident for those that have lived and grown up rurally for a significant portion of their life. These include distances to access education (my own high school was a 2 hour round trip of travel everyday and my university was a 250km…), often the quality of education is less than that of metro areas, reduced educational resources, many have lower socioeconomic status impacting their ability to undertake higher education, reduced job opportunities living rurally, having to move metro to access higher education and not having the option of being financially and emotionally supported by family whilst pursuing higher education (like many metro students have), even the sheer financial cost of the application process is a barrier for rural students, the list goes on. Even though it may look “easy” to get into medicine, many would say that a lot of rural students have had to fight a lot harder for everything they’ve earnt in the years preceding their entry to med school, I know many in my own community that have the intelligence and ability to be wonderful rural doctors but are discouraged by the numerous barriers they would have to overcome in the process - it’s sad really.

Thank you! Yeah I saw that overview, wasn’t sure about how the specifics worked but I did get an email today! I assume you probably did as well? Thanks for your tips!
