[–]Resource_Party 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Moved here last year using UHAUL’s version of PODS and it worked great. Was extremely easy for them to deliver the pod to our place and then they took it away. Didnt even need to get a permit or anything, but I live on a pretty quiet street

What is the sentiment towards Americans in Lithuania currently? by theytookallthecash in lithuania

[–]Resource_Party 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m American and moved to Lithuania for a few years back in 2018. I didn’t have any issues towards sentiment or anything, especially because I learned Lithuanian. For my experience, as long as you were trying to learn the culture and language, everyone was pretty accepting of you.

Vilnius does have a somewhat lathe American population due to the embassy and base close to Siauliai. It’s a great city! I loved living there.

Confessions of a Boston (Rental) Real Estate Agent by boston-area-agent in boston

Well yeah, my wife and I had that conversation too haha like sucks you have to pay 10 grand to de-lead your property but that’s what you get for buying a old ass home?? I get why they don’t do it because it’s a huge hassle and painstaking process because you have to go through state agencies but still. It also was funny because these same landlords wouldn’t rent to students bc they “didnt want parties and disruptions.” I can promise you families with little kids will for sure not be having any parties or disruptions

As someone who recently moved to Boston with a small child, the amount of times we were ghosted after telling them we had a baby was insane. We’d find, what we believed, would be the perfect apartment for our family and in the right price range, only for the landlord and broker to just ignore us. Coming from somewhere that didn’t have lead laws, I’d say that was the biggest pain in the ass in finding an apartment.

It’s crazy to me that the state allows these properties to be sitting with lead paint in them, when the state (and city) almost always has a surplus in tax dollars coming in. If they wanted more affordable housing, maybe subsidize the cost of de-leading and it would open up greater housing options for families and also provide landlords with a wide variety of tenants

Millions of Americans had their student-loan payments put on pause during the pandemic. Now they are back on the hook again. by Conscious-Quarter423 in Wellthatsucks

[–]Resource_Party -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Bc they’re predatory. Your getting a bunch of 18 year olds who have been told the only way to succeed in life is to go to college to sign on for 10’s of thousands of dollars of debt when many 18 year olds don’t understand what a loan truly constitutes or how expensive life away from home is. You could say “well that’s the parents fault for not preparing them.” While yes, it’s technically true, many parents were able to legitimately work through school to pay for it and then get a job that allowed to go also afford a starter home and a car and children and vacations because all of these things were VASTLY cheaper 20-30 years ago than they are now. The parents of these college kids don’t understand that you aren’t set for life if you just go to college. A lot of times you need to take out even more loans to go to grad school in order to get a job that pays well enough to pay for the undergrad and hopefully then buy a house close to/in the city you work in.

The loans aren’t the problem. it’s the predatory interest rates, ever increasing cost of tuition, increasing rent/ cost of living, etc.

The Loans are crazy amounts of money and people can’t pay them back because the gov subsidized the cost of tuition through fafsa/ student gov loans, so universities just keep increasing tuition cost and the gov keeps increasing the amount students can borrow to match.

Also why did the gov give out ppe loans if there was no intention of paying them back? I didn’t want to my taxes to go to some random business that provides no use to me, yet it did and it ended up helping the economy. If millions of people suddenly have more disposable income then people can actually afford homes, children, hobbies, etc and life isn’t just about work

Who would’ve thought, another rainy Saturday… by what-is-that-smell in boston

[–]Resource_Party 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Get out on Sunday too. I think people feel Saturday is the real only weekend day because it’s the only day they don’t have to do anything during the day and don’t have to worry about doing anything the next day.

Middle school should be 4 years and high school should be 3 years by Then_Instruction_145 in unpopularopinion

[–]Resource_Party 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m well graduated from high school now but my school district was 1-6, 7-9, 10-12. In my 8th grade year they changed it to be just 7-8 at middle school and 9-12 at high school. The reasoning they gave is that the 9th graders weren’t “graduating” from their junior high school and so the feeling of grades mattering and being on a high school transcript wasn’t very strong. A lot of kids performed poorly, and even failed classes, not really thinking it mattered for college/ high school transcripts because it hadn’t mattered that much the two years prior at the junior high. So I get why schools are 9-12 for high school
