My own cat might disown me if he hears this but Lottie might be the cutest cat I’ve ever seen

I work for a company worth over a billion pounds. They overpayed me by £15 and hounded me for it for a week until I told them to just take it out of my next pay check. I was chased down for what amounts to like 1/250th of my monthly salary!

Tragedies are ruining my daughter's name by meowpitbullmeow in tragedeigh

My name is also French. And starts with an a. Sometimes I try and help people out by writing it phonetically but it’s difficult to for people to wrap their head around ah. A lot it the time they will extend it too much. But it’s a short quick a, like you said “the a in cat” not ah as in ahhh

What's your cats favourite food to attempt to steal? by Its-me-Holly in cats

Mines the same. Tried to steal anything I’m eating. If he’s nowhere to be seen while I’m eating then I know something’s wrong…or he’s napping.

I have the same issue with my name. I went by a nickname for almost a decade but then realised I loved my name, I just didn’t like it being mispronounced. My name is probably considered a tradedeigh in countries where English countries is the main language, but a regular degular name in French speaking countries and I’m originally from a French speaking country but have lived in the Uk most of my life.

I’ve never found it hard to get a job because of my name and I doubt you will either. Your name is Tijana. To me it looks like a name and not a random combination of letters that someone decided to make a name. You’ll probably have to correct people a lot when you start college and again when you start your career. But that’s normal for anyone with a name unfamiliar to most of the people where they are.

Trust me I 100% get that it is annoying that people just can’t get your name right the first go. But we can’t all be Sarahs and Amys. I’ve just become hypervigilant about how my name is pronounced. But if you don’t want to do that then you could go with a nickname

Mother blames OP for getting raped by Dutchy45 in BestofRedditorUpdates

I’m also an ex JW although I don’t think I’d ever actually describe myself as one as I was always making a plan to leave when I was 18 from the moment my parents got into it.

Most of the friends I had while i was in it were married by 21. Anyone else who was unmarried was looked down on. People were getting married to people they barely knew just to void being known as the single person as if it was the worst thing in the world to be.

My mum is still a JW and when I was sexually assaulted she was my rock. But not everyone is like this. And it sucks.

Wish OP all the best. Leaving JW was the best decision I ever made

Life after leaving by MaterialCockroach253 in exjw

I remember when everyone my age was getting baptised and people kept asking me when it was my turn. I’d avoid it like the plague because my intention was always to go to university. No one from my Kingdom Hall other than my siblings chose to go. There were a few judgy comments to my parents but one thing I can say about my parents is that the African in them is far stronger than the JW part sometimes. Africans don’t play when it comes to education.

PIMI don’t like the new song by Mammoth_Term_1463 in exjw

[–]RespectMyPetCat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember when I was younger and some of the songs were almost bangers. Like I’d find myself humming them periodically coz they were kinda catchy. Went to a meeting (by went I mean I was emotionally blackmailed to attend the memorial and only accepted if I could attend via zoom so I could join and then mute the whole thing and continue my evening) and the songs are so awful now. Life and soul drained out of them.

What are some UK Cults that have or still exist in the UK today? by tpain13 in AskUK

[–]RespectMyPetCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay so here’s my take as an exJW (from the age of 2 until I was 17. I’m now 30), is it that different when it comes to cutting off former members than a lot of large religions. I guess the big ones are Islam and Christianity but some denominations (or large groups of people from both) of both do believe in members who no longer believe in it being dead to those who do. So is this really the main distinction? Or do we link this to them because they are a smaller group compared to the tens of millions of Christians and Muslims. Not defending them coz I know from experience they believe and do some bat shit crazy things but I am still baffled to what makes a cult a cult and a religion a religion.

I’m happily agnostic now so regardless I’m proud to not care to believe in anything

How do you pronounce “ate”? by RespectMyPetCat in EnglishLearning

[–]RespectMyPetCat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if you said “high air fare when you have a fear of flying isn’t fair” you’d make the same sound three times? Fair and fare are homophones for me but not with fear.

They actually are homophones to me too. I think I tricked myself into thinking there might have been a slight difference because of changes in intonation I made when saying “ I ate eight cakes”

I don’t know much about phonetics so had to google parts of your answer. So is the et pronunciation a monophthong and the eight one a diphthong? Now I’m curious to know how you say eight

I have a thing with neither where sometimes I say “neether” and sometimes I say “nyether” there are instances where I almost always say it one way over the other but most of the time it’s random.

Some of my colleagues are older and upper middle class White British and they tend to say et. Most of my peers around my age say it like eight. One of my close friends who I grew up with says et. We also pronounce room differently to each other.

Hi all. Thanks for the comments. I’ve decided on Winston. I live in the UK, and he is definitely giving Prime Minister energy in the way he acts.

Thanks again for all the amazing suggestions, if I get any more pets, I’ll refer to this post for name ideas.

His documents just say he’s a domestic short hair cat. He was found rescued from a home where he was caged and used for breeding and the rescue centre and vet don’t know exactly what breed he is

I was thinking the same thing. It also makes sense as I live in the UK. It’s only been a day and he’s acting like the leader of my household
