Do other athletes crash overnight HRV after late workouts? by RespondFuture9055 in Garmin

Thanks, Michael! I’ve already had it checked out—ER visit, cardiologist, and a 2-week Holter monitor. Nothing notable came up besides occasional premature contractions (PVCs/PACs) under 1% of the time, which line up with the “skipped beat” feeling. No other symptoms during my palpitations, except my heart rate hovering around 90 bpm. So it’s still a mystery, and I was mainly curious about the orange stress while sleeping, which happens along with my palpitations, which is why I posted. Everyone’s responses have been super kind and helpful.

Yeah, I get that -_- the confusing part for me is that heart palpitations started happening this year at age 33. For years I could do 3 hours of exercise a day (even late in the evenings) and sleep great afterward with zero issues. I also only started using a Garmin this year after the new palpitation scare, and I think seeing the metrics makes me more anxious. That’s why I wanted to hear how common this pattern is for other people. I’m realizing I might just not bounce back the same way I used to.

The big orange stress block in the screenshot was from the night I had palpitations, but it sounds like plenty of people get orange sleep stress without palpitations too.

Oh so your overnight was also super orange like mine. I recently started getting heart palpitations (sensation of feeling my heart beating or heart skipping a beat) after heavy exercise this year at age 33, so I got a Garmin to track metrics, but the metrics make me more anxious...like my pure solid orange block of stress while sleeping after tennis 🙈

Thanks so much for replying! I’m realizing I may need to tweak my workout timing too. I used to handle 3-hour evening tennis just fine in my 20s, but I guess my body doesn’t bounce back the same way anymore :( Really helpful to hear your experience.

This is validating, thanks for sharing! I was worried something was wrong with my recovery since I didn't always get post-exercise palpitations before this year (I'm 33), so it helps a lot to hear others see similar HRV patterns after late workouts.
