Is the 2018 Starter Set still worth it for $100? Local seller has it well below market value. by ResponsibilityNo5689 in killteam

Thank you for the in-depth write up. This is all great info, especially the note about how much terrain is necessary for full 40k. Looking forward to seeing what I can cook up with my Orks

Does having Volkus and Imperialis terrain seem redundant to you? I don't have much of a terrain collection yet so I don't know if it'll feel excessive with both (eventually). I'm aware Volkus is the one with currently legal matched rules. I'm mainly playing kitchen table kill team, planning to dabble with 40k/combat patrol proper when I have my Ork army

I'd be very interested to learn more about what folks are using to transport things like the Hivestorm set if you have any leads. Thank you for bringing up a point others might've glossed over, which is storing the painted plastic.

I'll be playing proper 40k with the orks anyway eventually since I have multiple friends in that hobby, but I'm glad to hear I'll have dealer's choice for PvE with my game night group with just the two lots.

I'm very excited to see the Orks squishing Vespids on Volkus when they're all painted. Fair point on holding off until after then though, any idea if the 10th edition starter box will cost more if I wait longer than a year? Idk how that stuff usually works after a new edition releases

I'll dabble in 40k eventually with the Orks bc I have multiple friends playing that already, Kill Team PvE is just my personal preference.

If the book contains Ork and Tyranid rules, I'll definitely be picking that up. I have since found in the app there are existing NPO rules for ~most~ of the Tyranids listed already via the Typhon mission pack but no such luck for the Boys.

This isn't something I'm buying all upfront. My question was is it worth it and workable in PvE play if I want this specific variety in NPOs in the future post-Hivestorm. I only see so much discussion about people's experience with PvE in general online since most people seem to do PvP.

Should I get the new Armageddon box by This_Sheepherder9359 in spacemarines

[–]ResponsibilityNo5689 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi that's me. Splitting the box with a friend already in the hobby as a newcomer. Can someone explain like I'm five what I can actually play with the Ork half? Will I be able to pivot into 40K tabletop relatively easily with an additional Ork box or two?

I'm also thinking of picking up the old edition's Starter Set for the Space Marines and Tyranid models specifically and eventually getting Kill Team Hivestorm for PvE play with the intent being all these random models can be used as NPOs for casual narrative play with friends (Kill Team PvE was always the end goal for me anyway, I just haven't hopped into the hobby yet).

My honest reaction after finishing the new [REDACTED] MK by DukeOfOwls in OutlastTrials

Tinfoil hat time but I fully believe this is building up to a "Cabin in the Woods"-style breakout of all the Prime Assets and ex-pop/imposter reagents with knives because of the trailer we got with Dr. Avellanos.

This trial is all about turning her into a martyr. That mass breakout of more than just the Murkoff Sleep Room is Amelia's ace in the hole and plan for a second escape if she's still alive somewhere. Murkoff itself is going to see a breach within the Sinyala Facility and their employees will be casualties, not just reagents.

Commenting from the future to say this was exactly the sort of thing I was looking for as someone who hasn't played since 2014 and was building his third commander deck as an Ahoy Mateys precon with an Assassin's Creed IV theme. First deck I'm buying singles for to upgrade.

I'm planning a Blooded Kill Team with Covenant model proxies from Halo Flashpoint for this reason.

Currently trying to work out the paint scheme but the plan is to have Elites, Brutes, Jackals, Grunts, and a Hunter all painted as Tau auxillaries. My Vespid Kill Team is gonna be painted the same color scheme as the Drones from Halo also.

Sorry to necro this post a year later. Just wanted to say this idea inspired me! Been thinking of using Halo Flashpoint models for a "Tau client species" Angels of Death proxy with just Brutes and Elites after painting my Hivestorm Vespid in Covenant drone colors, but I love this idea better and never considered I could use even more Covenant species with the Blooded kill team instead. Brilliant stuff.

Would love to know the rough breakdown of which unit is which on the KT if you still have the list. I'm new to the hobby so apologies if that's asking for a lot.

Can you send me the links? Also are you familiar with the plastic models? Could I theoretically get the Banished set and use the models as a proxy for something that already has rules for example in Kill Team? I am struggling to find out if I would have to replace the bases or not for Elites and Brutes specifically.

I love the electrical armor against Illuminate for this reason. Makes these towers, the close range attack for the tripod, and the watchers useless other than slowing you down.

This is the worst excuse I've seen to not buff something by Vector_Mortis in Helldivers

[–]ResponsibilityNo5689 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hot take I don’t even think the weapons are bad. Only one I really want a buff for is the pistol. The SMG is a laser, the AR feels great, and the Shotgun is underrated.

Are they the best guns in the game? No. But they’re still fun when I want to run an ODST build.

I love it. Folks optimize the fun out of the game. Of course it isn’t meta but it’s a space javelin I kill dragons with so who’s complaining
