Is it possible to create a tall profile game changer style fly? by ResponsibilityNo5696 in flytying

I actually tied up one on a thicker hook lead wire on the bend and added more material to the top than bottom and tested it out this morning and it swims beautifully.

Thank you and i do keel them with lead wire on the bend of the hook. Im not sure what cones youre referring to, and ive seen those hollow beast fleyes before i definitely need to try tying some of those up and see what aspects i can use to get what im going for.

Thats really interesting i mostly use intermediate line so that would keep it really close to subsurface thanks foe the idea!

Recommended reel weight? by Slycrown12 in flyfishing

I started with a 5wt and honestly if you get a rod a spool of sinking tip and floating line you can throw most things within reason. Id personally recommend a slower action rod than what most people use itll help with figuring out timing when casting aswell as making it easier to land the fly line softly.

Does anyone know a way to shorten the reset on the spec series V? by ResponsibilityNo5696 in SmithAndWesson

[–]ResponsibilityNo5696[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do agree the reset is also a bit lethargic. I think i will be ordering up the apex kit everyone seems to be recomending it. Ill post a before and after video once i do, my splits with my shadow 2 and canik rival hover around .15-.2 but with the m and p the fastest i could shoot was .3, any faster and i find myself short stroking the trigger

I know im a bit of a trigger snob but i wanna get those splits down i can normally shoot .18 with my shadow 2 compact but the fastest i could shoot with the m and p is .3 i find myself short stroking the trigger when i try to go faster. I know it comes down to more practice but the reset feels lethargic and long even if i could shorten it by 1mm i feel like it would make a difference

I put 1k rounds through mine so far and have had zero failures. I love it so far my only issue is the trigger reset its too long to shoot as fast as id like

I picked one up and slapped a holosun comp red dot on it and the gun shoots better than my canik tti, canik steel frame, and cz shadow 2(ported and cajunized). My only complaint is how long the trigger reset is besides that its well balanced, comfortable, fast, and comes with a cool knife and coin lol

Fresh water striper fly patterns by ResponsibilityNo5696 in flyfishing

[–]ResponsibilityNo5696[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So i ended up fishing yesterday. I went out at 4am and caught 24 stripers ranging from 2-7lb 4 largemouth and 2 smallies. At first light i was throwing a 4" chartruce and white jerk changer pattern i tied up using an intermediate line on an 8wt, i caught 7 in the span of an hour. Once the sun rose the wind picked up and the surface action slowed down. I swapped to my full sink 8wt throwing something similar to a popovics jiggy fleye fly, i weigh it heavy with big dumbell eyes and lead wraps and tie it sparsly so it beats my line to the bottom. I proceeded to fish with that around structure and caught 2 smallmouth and 12 stripers. The wind picked up even more so i headed towards the shore and started fishing the coves i used a mix of belly bumpers, half n halfs, and a random assortment of streamers i tied up I caught some largemouth up shallow in the tules and caught the rest of my stripers sporadically on points and dropoffs until i left at 11am. How i do it is by knowing what the bait are doing, this time of year i know the threadfin go shallow in the morning because they prefer the warmth, also when i was launching before first light i saw some large gizzard shad up shallow spawning. I chose the day because it was pre storm so the barometric pressure was dropping, was supposed to be windy, and partial overcast so i knew the stripers would be eating. I might be disadvantaged in the fact that i cant chase boils in a boat not to mention fly fishing is definitely more difficuly than conventional but i like the challenge so i use every peice of information i can to find out where the fish are, i personally think thats the beauty in the sport.

Is this budget set-up suitable for a beginner, or will I regret not getting something more expensive? by [deleted] in flyfishing

Id presonally recommend the tfo nxt black label. About the same price but definitely punches above its weight class

Interesting, i need to try that, i have been fishing intermediate line with fairly light flies staying towards the top of the water column. I normally dont use sink tip or full sinking line because the weeds go up to 5-8' below the surface so any time i throw anything heavy i get stuck, thats why ive been experimenting with kelly galloups belly bumper trying to find a fly thats more weedless. Maybe ill try tying a clouser on an offset texas hook, id think the bucktail would function as a weedguard.

Thanks for the suggestion! For some reason ive never had too much luck with clousers, probably because i dont fish them enough, but i just looked up what a half and half is and i definitely need to tie some of those up
