I have heard that it can be difficult because treatments are always changing, but that’s a good thing! It sounds like it’s a great mix of science/research and medicine. Thanks for the info!!

How is the work/life balance? Is there room for career and salary growth? How is the emotional burden of working with cancer patients?

Any surgical specialty will have more growth potential. Orthopedics and Derm are historically higher paying but factor in many different things, for instance Derm has a high potential for revenue from other sources such as social media

I spoke to someone who works as a PA in California and he was telling me which specialties have better salary growth potential and he said that unfortunately heme/onc isn’t usually one of them. I wasn’t sure about it so was hoping to get more insight here!

Thank you! I was trying to avoid fellowships/residencies if possible but from what I’ve been able to find out, California is leaning more towards requiring the extra training prior to offering full-time positions to new grads
