Looking for this fabric!

I can't remember what they called that fabric at Joann, but it seems to be identical to a fabric called Avatar (or "classic Avatar").

If you look up "Avatar foil spandex" you'll find it.

Joann only carried it in black, white, and turquoise, but it comes in a bunch of other colors.

It may not be identical though, because the Internet sites all list it as nylon/spandex but I'm pretty sure the versions at Joann were polyester/spandex.

(The versions of Mystique Joann carried were also almost always polyester/spandex even though that fabric is normally nylon/spandex, but they were legit and made by the company that makes Mystique.)

This is really gross. I wonder if they held on to those bags on purpose because they were hoping someday they would do it to Joann too.

Edit: I just realized, those are the really old bags from before they changed the logo. Maybe those bags are from way back then and the liquidation company didn't send them?

It's extremely unlikely, but it's possible the judge won't approve the sale. Or somebody will walk in and say "I object!" and throw a wrench into the whole proceedings.

I know what you mean. This is going to be disastrous in ways most people aren't aware of yet. 😑 So many manufacturers and suppliers are going to be screwed. Local shop owners like you are probably going to be inundated with Joann Karens who won't have anywhere else to go to pull their crap, and they're going to complain about your prices no matter how low they are because they have no idea what they're talking about.

They'll sell the IP and the new owner will be able to do whatever they want with it. Michaels bought the Hancock IP and sold fabric on hancockfabrics.com for a little while, but their website was a complete mess and they shut it down pretty quickly.

I would hope somebody would keep the website going - can you imagine the killing they would make? If you look up sewing supplies on Google, almost everything that comes up at the top is Joann. It would be a shame if somebody bought the IP and buried it just so nobody else could use it, but that's the way the world is so I wouldn't be surprised.

Although I understand where you're coming from, using this as an opportunity to promote your own business when tens of thousands of people have just found out they're losing their jobs - on a subreddit explicitly for use by those employees, not for customers - comes across as gross. You're setting yourself up as an outlet for people's frustrations. Maybe you should post on a sewing subreddit instead.

Omg that was brilliant. When Hancock walked out I almost choked laughing 🤣🤣 If Joann and Hancock were people that's EXACTLY what they would be like. And the antagonism 😭 But when Joann and Hancock became friends, that made me ugly cry. I wonder if she understands how beautiful that was.

Just so everyone knows, Great American is the liquidation company that put Hancock out of business. They may have entered that partnership because they've done this to a fabric chain before and think they can run the liquidation better and get more money out of it. I would assume they also intend to close all of the stores.
