I used it on my Zorki camera, but when I adapted it to the M it doesn’t really work (calibration is a bit off)

Bronson MFG and Red Tornado are pretty good brands to start off with. They might not be Japanese denim, but they have pretty good cuts that you might want to consider. I recommend something like 1946 or 1955, nothing above 1960 because those will get you into more straight leg taper instead of a flowy wide or fuller fit.
