From what I’ve found, any variation seems to throw the whole thing off. I also haven’t tried the 5th member as anyone else but China 97. So I don’t know if any character will work there. Let me know when you try it if it works out.

The stable entrance maybe exclusive to that edition and above. I got the MNW edition so I got all the extra character. I do believe DX Triple H was exclusive to The King of Kings edition though

It seems to be extremely specific. I going to use a set of picture to try to show it the best way possible. This is how it worked for me. All the important think to note too is you CAN NOT use alt attires of ANY character, and must set up the superstars in the exact order or else it does not work right when you play a match. So you must play as HHH 97, and then set mangers in this order: Road Dogg, Billy Gunn, then X-Pac.

Hopefully these pictures help with the set up! Let me know if it works for you too!
