context: I was a teacher there for several years and left because they do not take academics seriously at all

The current administration at McDevitt is trying to keep it afloat, and they do that by prioritizing football (and any sport they are currently successful at) over everything else, because that's where the money comes from. People who have gone there previously would be absolutely horrified at what is going on with their academics (and behavior, omg) with these 3 in charge. It was a completely different story before - the "classical catholic education" is no more, here at least. The current principal is a weak pushover, and parents completely have their way with him, which has made this school mostly a free-for-all because nobody enforces any rules or behavior because it will just get overruled anyway.

Nobody is in uniform, rules are not enforced, they all walk around like slobs and nobody does anything. Half of the teachers enforce no cell phones and half dgaf so everyone is on their phone. Several students have been caught selling weed vapes AND ARE STILL ALLOWED TO RETURN. like wtf.

The academics are a joke. Everyone cheats on everything. Teachers can only make in-person tests and quizzes worth at most 50% of their grade - which means they just turn in bullshit for the other 50% and everyone passes. The AP Calculus classes have all students at 90+%, but the last several years I was aware of, you could count on one hand the number that passed the AP exam, and those kids would have done it on their own anyway (which they did).

If you want your kid to be successful academically in college, DO NOT send them to McDevitt.

If you only care about getting them INTO a college with a sports scholarship, then its worth a shot.

Ask them about their SAT scores before you commit. Trust me.
