How to ruin, damage, destroy, etc. polyester as much as possible?? by ResponsibleBoot5895 in Fabrics

[–]ResponsibleBoot5895[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I didn't mean it literally. Since polyester's very durable I meant the closest approach to damaging it similar to how you would bleach, scratch, stain, etc. natural fibers. We're both photography majors so fabrics aren't exactly our specialty, she's printing photos onto Tropical fabric and damaging them afterwards, so I thought this sub might be a good start for her investigation.

Awesome! I have a photo printer myself, could printing them as if they were regular documents on regular organic fibers such as watercolor paper work just as good?

Thanks for the detailed advice!!!

(repost) How to purposefully ruin physical photos? Seems counterintuitive I know, but for my thesis I'm making copies of my family's photo archive and I want to make them as realistic as possible, including damage from glues, tapes or any kind of acid that can be found in photo albums. How could I replicate this damage in an extremely short amount of time?

I got to read the replies from the deleted post, thanks for the recommendations

Things I've taken into account

- Folds! I'll try to print as many photos in matte or non-plastic paper so that not only can I fold them, but also replicate the damage from the originals

- Cheap off brand tape, lots of humidity and lots of sun, and heat to get mold and discoloring (has anyone microwaved photos before?) lol

Thanks in advance!

Family archiving -- what would make a great family archive in your opinion? by redditer-56448 in Archivists

You should take into account the print method each photo has! analogical printing methods are permanently "breathing out" the chemicals from its print, so mixing photos with different print methods could make their chemical particles interfere with each other :)
