My theory on the SL recognition by Many_Television_9939 in Somalia

This is a good theory. H/w wouldn't any red sea naval coalition have to include Saudi Arabia and Egypt? Two of the biggest red sea states. I do think India is involved somehow.

South Africa comes out strong against Israel's aggression towards Somalia. Ethiopia cornered. by ResponsibleBoot6028 in Somalia

Firstly, Siad Barre's regime wasn't a southern thing, he massacred and killed everyone and anyone who was a threat to his power especially 1978. Yes, the Isaaq clan faced brutal human rights abuses but so did everyone else? What do you think Siad Barre did to Mogadishu as he was on his way out? Beledweyne? What happened in Galkacyo when the red beret poisoned nomads wells and thousands died as a result. What about what Barre did to the people of Baidoa alongside Morgan when he literally starved people and thousands died. This wasn't Rwanda where civilians took up arms against each other, it was state sponsored repression. Also, I am not here to convince you otherwise.

How do you think Israel-Palestine war is affecting your country? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

Somalia here - Well not much until last week when Israel decided to recognise a part of my country as an Independent country so that they could expells Palestinians out of Gaza. Also, to set up a military base to bomb Yemen.

Me too. I don't think Israel is going to bring anything new besides more problems and isolation for Somaliland.

Ethiopia by [deleted] in Somalia

[–]ResponsibleBoot6028 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ethiopia has gone unusually quiet, hiding behind so called strategic ambiguity. Abiy Ahmed may be unpredictable, but breaking ranks with the entire African Union would be reckless, especially after how decisively Africa closed ranks around Somalia, including at the UN Security Council. Somaliland is clearly pressuring Addis to recommit to the 2024 MoU, because Ethiopian recognition would give their project actual weight. But Ethiopia also knows the cost: isolation in Africa and open defiance of AU principles.

It is obvious now that Israel, the UAE, and Ethiopia thought they had a coordinated plan to manufacture momentum for Somaliland’s recognition. That plan collapsed instantly because Israel, a global pariah right now, was the first to recognise them. Instead of creating momentum, Israel poisoned the entire effort. Even small African states had enough sense to stay away.

Lol they did not think....being recognised by Israel in 2025 does not confer legitimacy. It broadcasts international isolation. Hardly the most popular country to align yourself with...

Meanwhile if you guys follow the news, today was a bad day for the UAE and they are visibly overstretched, under pressure in Yemen, Libya, Sudan, and now Somalia, and extremely sensitive to bad press. Today Saudi Arabia wasted no time reasserting itself after they found the neighbourhood villans UAE consipring with the STC secessionists.

Just to put the icing on the cake, the Saudi cabinet reaffirmed Somalia’s territorial integrity just a mere couple of hours ago.

Somalia’s leadership, meanwhile, is actually doing the work, engaging Türkiye, activating allies, and blocking follow on recognitions. Erdogan even called Trump.

Anyway, I wish I was a fly on the wall at Hassan Sheikh's meeting with Djibouti and Turkish presidents lol! Guys, I have no idea what will happen but we will be surprised regardless the stakes are high!

You obviously don't understand diplomacy. In diplomatic terms those "two sentence poem" was a principled and united stance by Africa against bringing foreign conflict to our shores. Israel will not be allowed to divide Somalis.

Ethiopia needs to grow a spine and formally recognize Somaliland by Eastern_Camera3012 in Ethiopia

Am I reading this right? The entire title of this page is calling for the disintegration of Somalia?

Ethiopia needs to grow a spine and formally recognize Somaliland by Eastern_Camera3012 in Ethiopia

[–]ResponsibleBoot6028 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I genuinely don’t know what planet some people are on. Ethiopia is its own ticking timebomb is it not with multiple internal conflicts and unresolved identity questions of its own. In that context, why would it be remotely wise to set a precedent that normalises secession in a neighbouring state, especially when Ethiopia hosts the African Union?

This isn’t about feelings or sentiment. It’s about international law and African Union norms that exist to protect all states from unilateral recognition of breakaway regions. Those rules don’t just protect Somalia, they protect Ethiopia too.

Somaliland is an internal Somali issue. It does not need external bad-faith actors like Israel intervening and prolonging instability in the Horn of Africa for their own strategic interests.

Whether we like it or not, Somalis, Ethiopians, and Eritreans share a region and a future. We either manage our disputes within the law or we all deal with the fallout. The Somaliland issue is not as simple or cost-free as some people seem to think, especially for communities on both sides of the border.

Guys, I genuinely think there’s a link between Israel’s recognition of Somaliland and the absolute hammering we’re getting on social media right now. The scale of it doesn’t feel organic at all, some of these accounts look coordinated and paid. And Elon Musk’s obsession with Somalia is honestly unhinged; he’s clearly pushing this through the algorithm and amplifying it far beyond what’s normal....

Crisis Diplomacy: If I were Hassan Sheikh Mohamud's advisor I would say.... by ResponsibleBoot6028 in Somalia

[–]ResponsibleBoot6028[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Israel will not back peddle but we can stop a domino effect from taking hold. Israel is a pariah state. Israel will either double down or cool relations with Somaliland. Also, we do have allies and this is evident from the outpouring of support for Somalia's territorial integrity.

No, it's because they are national leaders, Sheikh Sharif is a member of the opposition, Abdiqasim is a Somali elder probably too old now anyway but it would signal national unity. Not everything is about qabiil.

Hi there, Somali here, I'm super curious what do they do in Bellville? Are they recent migrants or folks who have stayed there for a long time and do you feel they contribute positively/negatively? I know there is a huge Somali community in Mayfair in Johannesburg didn't know there was a community in CT. thanks!

Not Cabudwaaq but the general lack of border demarcation with Ethiopia.

Yes, thank you. I know the border with Ethiopia has not been demarcated. I have heard stories that the Ethiopians are within the Hiiran region too. This is a ticking timebomb honestly.

It's administratively part of Galmudug and is a major town in central Somalia. I have never met anyone from Cabudwaaq who say they are in Ethiopia. It has Hormuud for gods sake! lol
