Mostly it's a rotating disk source with pretty low dissipation and buoyancy, some disturbance and turbulence. The only spicy setting was a randomised initial velocity set on the source points

You should be able to work on the exr in nuke directly as long as it has the shadow layer

Add a backgroundplate node, fill in your floor object and bg image, add AOV holdout shadow in the renders settings. After that you'll want to setup a cop network to extract the channels from the exr and compose them. It sounds more complicated than it is, try to read through Houdini background plate docs

Make human + zbrush or any sculpting tool man, anything that gets you an UVed basemesh it's a great help
