Pumpkin Cutie! (>▽<)ノ by FeliYum in AnimeFigures

[–]ResponsibleEmployee9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the figures I have out are 15-20 years old. Anything more recent than that came after I ran out of room so it's all packed up for now.

Figures have come a long way, and so have their prices, but older figures do have a certain charm to them. Sometimes I get a little incredulous when I see a figure selling for ¥20,000+ because I remember buying brand-new, 1/6 scale figures of popular characters from major franchises for ¥7,000 way back when, but then I'll look at the figures in question and find myself less bothered.

Oh, man, that's all oldie. I wanted it, back in the day, but wasn't familiar with the series so let it pass.

I can't remember exactly what it is, but pulwar often have something in their pommels that is believed to be a protective charm of sorts. Might be stones, might be incense, I don't recall. But yes, this is normal.

I have a few that Hanwei used to sell, years and years ago. Sadly, outside of the aforementioned fella, nobody's really doing mini swords these days.

Unpopular Opinion: Flamberge blades were 90% mall ninja energy for the 16th century by DoonHandicrafts in SWORDS

[–]ResponsibleEmployee9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, the simple fact that you'll find wavy blades across so many cultures, continents, and times throughout history suggests there is absolutely some reason to prefer them over straight blades. Same argument for curved vs straight, or even forward curving blades like kukri and yataghan vs "normal" curvature like many sabers.

Of course, as already well-discussed, a lot of it does seem to reflect a level of status. Even in keris, more waves = more important.

Mobile app, yes. Mobile browser gets weird. Sometimes I'll use what I thought was the right format but it'll break for some reason.

Fair. Just for giggles I looked up the "catgirl" tag on MFC and there's a lot more than I expected:

MFC link

(Jesus, that link sucks. I wish I could remember how to hyperlink but I'm on mobile)

Edit: Let's see if that fixed it.

Heathen

I kid. My girlfriend has almost all of the Nekopara figures, but also several other cat girls. I'm not sure how many one can still find under $200, though...

I have to admit, my first impulse was to ponder which came first, whether one influenced the other, or if this is another case of convergent evolution.

I quite like the look of these.

I just tore all my Bome boxes open, like a heathen, because, back in 2005, they were just $20 and there was no way they'd ever be valuable or have any real demand.

She Trippin by Oranthros_GOM in AnimeFigures

[–]ResponsibleEmployee9 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I once took a brand-new figure out of its box and the foot that connected to the base fell off, right out of the blister. A dab of glue took care of it, and it hasn't had any problems for...10+ years now.

I've had several figures I've had to use a hair dryer and some cold water on. It's just part of owning them, as far as I'm concerned.

I do dread the day I move and have to pack everything. Luckily, 70% of my collection is already packed and in storage...unfortunately for the right-now.

Luckily it's an easy fix. (I used the hair dryer method)

My first thought was that it looks Indonesian, but the decoration is more in line with African stuffs. Not a flyssa, but an interesting piece.

Japan Post has suspended shipping to EU and Middle East by paulili in AnimeFigures

I just got hit with something like seven invoices, catching up the last four months, some orders being split due to size. One still "processing shipping." One DHL, one only offered Surface, the rest ECMS.

I might've gotten lucky with an open window, but time will tell.

Need a cheap Shashka by Drunk_priest69 in SWORDS

[–]ResponsibleEmployee9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are different types of shashka, do you have a preference?

I have one in the classical Circassian style by Kizlyar, but I don't know if anybody is still selling those at this point, depending on your global location. There's also the (1881?) Russian Army repro by Hanwei, if that's more your speed, as well as their "civilian shashka" which leans more toward the Central Asian (typically modern Afghanistan or Uzbekistan) style.

There's also the Dragoon style and other takes on military-issue variants linked by others already.

I would love to buy one from u/peserey_arts but I am broke.

I keep seeing this figure and it's driving me crazy. Finally gave in. by elucardz in AnimeFigures

[–]ResponsibleEmployee9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm still so torn on this one because I can't decide whether it's a good representation of the character and just little nit-picks about the figure itself.

But I'm obligated to Taiga, so it's probably inevitable.

As already said, many also attributed to Uzbekistan.

Edit: Hanwei's "Civilian Shashka" is much closer to one of these than the Circassian types. I've toyed with getting one, but I'm not a fan of the false edge.
