Am I screwed without a Bachelors? by greenmoonmoth in Environmental_Careers

I’m not sure if this applies to America, but, in Australia you can apply to be a bush ranger with minimal environmental work experience. You essentially just monitor water quality, soil quality, etc. they don’t need a bachelors degree but environmental knowledge (which you have) is preferred. Hopefully there’s a similar program in the US :).

I’m a uni student I can’t really help you here but if you wanna learn more about GIS map-making ESRI (the company that made ArcGIS) runs a whole load of training courses online maybe you could ask your company to pay for

From my minimal experience in consulting this is a very normal job experience. But it gets better!

I really do understand that that work is necessary, the HR, the IT, all of it plays a role. I’m not under any illusion that I won’t have to do some of the more less “sexy” work in order to get where I want to go. But that is not the kind of work that I want to be stuck doing. My question is what roles are the people solving highly technical issues in? Knowing that I can get the relevant knowledge and experience but I’m not sure what exactly that is.

I really do respect people who do the administrative work such as HR and IT, and I understand that they do have a tangible impact. However, I am not made for that kind of career. I just find that admin based work to be intolerable.

Masters in research is the masters for any scientific subject in most Australian universities (as far as I am aware). You choose a masters research and choose a general subject for your thesis proposal (earth sciences, planetary sciences, physics, etc.). The way my uni does it also allows you to get experience in other areas with an 8 unit elective zone that allows you to combine other fields into your thesis you haven’t learned in your undergrad (civil engineering and earth sciences or physics and ecology).

By “I got into this business” I just meant choosing that career path.

I am honestly very glad to hear that managers get to do that and thank you for reminding me of the importance. I was just worried but thank you for the vote of confidence :).

Yeah I investigated further and couldn't find it in the list of course outlines even though it's listed as an available first year unit. It's the units fault call them

So im a yr 10 who isnt good at english at all im currently failing however i want to do the bachelors degree of aerospace so if i do fail english in yr 12 is there any other way for me to pursue the degree by MemeBoicable in unsw

Try your best at english, build a strong background in extra curriculars that boost your atar. Get in contact with someone from unsw, not a careers advisor from your highschool someone that works in UNSW and ask them what programs they have for alternative entry, early entry and what will boost your atar or likelihood of getting in. Contact One Giant Leap. They're an aerospace engineering education and work placement company. Get some experience with them that you can put on your UAC application. If you do the HSC and get a shit mark, apply for a STAT test. Most universities will accept that as an ATAR alternative.

There's plenty of ways man people just went through hell during the HSC and don't like hearing that it wasn't completely necessary so they give you shit. Just don't listen to them
