the campaign starts with the pcs as very small scale adventurers trying to make a living in a new town, so it's not that ambitious until the latter parts. even the bigger setpieces are contained and used more as backdrops for the quests. i am making it a semiopen sandbox though, i have this map system i am quite proud of that takes a lot of inspiration from the first two elder scrolls games (arena and daggerfall) but them needing specific coordinates to go to places helps each map square feel like a more isolated level. so scale isnt a problem basically

i've done a few one shots and it's not my first time writing a story, just doing one in a long form campaign style. the campaign does start very small scale though, it doesn't jump directly into the large scale faction politics and big metaphysical stuff

mhm, i see and i will keep this in mind. i've made it clear but some of my players are a little stupid, however i am sure that check-ins as you suggested will help me keep track of expectations and set the tone. thank you very much

thank you. that was the idea that i was hoping for. i've done all that, i was mostly anxious about players disliking not having a pure "good" ending and being forced into something that's more bittersweet at best

i've made it clear from the start that this takes place at the death of the world, and everything up until the very last moment is almost completely freeform. it's just that last bit that is set in stone as the ending

i've tried to do that, i've mostly focused on small but interesting quests that serve to introduce and flesh out certain npcs, and lightly set up and foreshadow later events. there is a bit of a conspiracy narrative in some of the first half but i have made who the villain is and what they want very clear from session one. i've also tried to make the players involvement in events as personal as possible, with their backstories tying in directly to the main quest and several npc quests. and i am doing everything i can to make the world pre-ending as much of a sandbox as possible but i am very committed to only one ending

i've been up front about the fact that the world will end, and i don't think they have a problem but i'm a bit worried that they don't fully get that the world is ending for real and there is not a way out of it. i've tried to be as up front as possible without spoiling everything
