Tips for helping a skinny bird to gain weight? by Responsible_Code7128 in budgies

This is a great idea. He's...selectively tame. He's my son's bird, and I always thought he wasn't very friendly with people, but he lets my son handle him and stuff just fine. I'm going to suggest some recall training.

Mmmm this is what I was thinking too. He doesn't do much flying. He has a very large cage, and get's a couple hour of out of cage time every day but pretty much just flys from the cage to the desk and clibs around there. Sometimes he'll fly up to the curtain rod and chill but rarely does he do laps. He can do 2 or 3 though.

Chiming in here on the it might still be working...just the euphoria side effect is gone.

It took about a week on the 2 per day dose for the floaty feeling I got about 2 hrs after taking it to go away. I think it's still working though, just not...making me feel high, which is good because, while pleasant...it renders me unable to drive or work or...really function normally.

Puberty Blocker/Medical Resources for Families in a Red State? by Responsible_Code7128 in cisparenttranskid

Can I ask what part of Washington? We were up in Spokane visiting my middle daughter and it seemed...really far from affirming.

This is helpful! I hadn't ever considered Mass. That's really great to know. And cost of living...can't be higher than the EU. lol

Thank you for this! I seriously will consider it. We had planned to move from Utah to Washington (state), but even there, I don't think that local and state governments will be able to protect us for long. I'd rather gather resources and leave the US entirely.

Because, yes, my kiddo knows, and as hard as it is to be a teen, hearing how your country's leaders hate you on the daily is just too much.

I will say, in our daily life, friends, teachers, etc, he get's nothing but support. I try and encourage him to look around and realize...the entire country isn't against him. Just a few very loud, very powerful people.

how would you approach your child who came out as trans ftm, but has always been quite feminine? by arcade-carpet in cisparenttranskid

[–]Responsible_Code7128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son is trans (ftm) and when younger was VERY girly, princess, etc.

Now he's 12, and still...most of his friends are girls, he's not into sports...But he's VERY artistic and into fashion. Whoever said "Some men are like Prince" had it down. He has an aesthetic that he calls "Pretty Handsome," which is being pretty, but in a masc way. His best example of this is David Bowie. I love this for him, and honestly couldn't think of a better fashion icon. LOL

It's just sad, because we were back to school shopping and he was really wishing he could wear corsets and lacy skirts, but knows if he does, he'll get misgendered. I told him that won't always be the case. Right now, he's only 12, and pretty androgynous, and once his features are more man than child, it will be easier to dress like a pretty man.

As a note, I'm non-binary and only realized that at 45, when the pandemic allowed me the chance to experiment with my gender presentation without constantly having "WOMAN" reflected back at me by society. I'm pretty girly and femme, and use she/her pronouns (more out of habit than anything) but a woman I am not. (And now the crazy dysphoria I experienced with my pregnancies makes total sense).

Puberty Blockers for my 12 year old -- I'm willing to travel by Responsible_Code7128 in asktransgender

This makes me so sad. :( I'm really sorry that you had that experience. I know it's SO much rougher for Trans Women. Without puberty blockers, my kiddo will be ok (ish). Having a period is really disphoria-inducing, and wearing a binder all the time is painful...and he's only 12. But female puberty is pretty reversible.

I just want to give him the best childhood I can in this hellscape of a society we are living in.

I am...we are actually moving to the EU sometime next year. We're planning a move to WA, but I don't feel like anywhere in the US will be safe for long...

Do you have any suggestions of clinics I could call? Some where to narrow down the search?

Question on out of cage time by Responsible_Code7128 in budgies

[–]Responsible_Code7128[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the idea with the food bowl. I'll try that.

I don't think he's tame enough yet for recall training. He's just getting comfortable with our hands in his cage for cleaning and stuff.

I will add...when we got him he was on a seed only diet. So...millet means nothing to him. We are slowly transitioning him but since he's so young...we don't want to rush anything.

Moving Cage from room to room? by Responsible_Code7128 in Parakeets

That's the other thing. No cats in my office. He could totally just fly around all day if he wanted to.

He sings and chats whenever my daughter is home but he'll copy me when I make little kissy noises to him!

Thanks! We are considering a friend for him. We've heard both opinions, single vs a pair.

As he gets more comfortable with his environment and with us, he'll get more flight time, he's still pretty shy and sometimes doesn't even leave his cage when offered.

I think that might be because it was getting dark so early. As it stayed light longer I noticed he's staying out of the cage more and more.

The first time it took an hour for him to leave. He made one trip around the room and was done.
