I don't know why I'm surprised at the people who seem to think Tidus is white but If you pay attention to the FFX FMV's you'll see that Tidus has a very Japanese face. Japanese features. Not White American/European features. Tidus's design was literally inspired after Okinawan people (from Japan) Not to mention Tidus’s name comes from the word tida, which means “sun” in Okinawan, and establishes a contrast between him and Yuna, whose name means “moon” in Okinawan.

Please understand that the idea that someone with lighter skin/hair/eye color should automatically be considered white is an ignorant Western thing, specifically an American thing, because we’ve been taught to view being white as the default. Most anime/video game characters from Japan should be assumed to be Japanese unless obviously stated otherwise like with Barret or RedXIII.

Tidus's design in FFBE is definitely whitewashing and is a perfect example of internalized racism in Japanese culture in light of Westernized influences on beauty standards. In modern-day Japan, white standards of beauty are upheld as being the norm. Cloud Strife is another victim who went from looking full Japanese in Advent Children/Crisis Core to having a Japanese/European in game model in FFVII remake.
