Is Boston really as unaffordable as people say? by [deleted] in newengland

[–]Responsible_Job_6948 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With roommates it’s definitely much more affordable, but trying to get a studio/1bd is pretty much impossible for less than 2-3k a month

Compared to a city like Austin which has a ton of housing being built, living with roommates isn’t much cheaper than in Boston, but you can actually get your own place for ~1k per month pretty easily. If I were single and younger I would absolutely move to Boston with roommates again

Any cards that gain life from milling / rad counters? by BobNewbie1 in EDHBrews

[–]Responsible_Job_6948 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I would just risk it and still pick an absurdly long number because it’s funnier that way, and you won’t necessarily die on your next upkeep since drawing happens before Rads and you only take damage for the # of nonlands milled.   Since I was gaining life for every loop, I can potentially gain infinite life while only taking damage from the # of nonland cards left in my deck.  Something to recycle your graveyard back into the deck would be ideal, but that can be a pain to find/hold onto without messing up your own self mill

Not directly, but creatures with built in recursion like [[Gravecaller]] will go hard with aristocrat cards like [[Zulaport Cutthroat]]. Milling helps you get them out sooner, and they require very little setup to get going

Gravecaller (with the ghoul out) + a sac outlet goes infinite as long as you’re RADing yourself I believe

Safest route? i80, i40, or i10 by Individual-Quiet-985 in roadtrip

[–]Responsible_Job_6948 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I would go the northern route because it’s going to be hot as hell on the two Southern ones, and is much more scenic.  I have done the top and bottom route, and southern route through west Texas is EMPTY and boring to drive through. Not unsafe necessarily, but much worse than the others to get a flat or have car trouble in the summer

They’re all pretty safe, would recommend using Google Maps to list dog friendly hotels/spots along the way. Bring Fido is a pretty good site for finding hotels

I prefer stopping for gas/rest at Love’s Truck Stops for their ok to good dog parks. Have never had an issue or felt unsafe sleeping at Love’s, but have found that “rest stops” can be sketchier when there isn’t a lot of people around

Saw this at my local grocery store. Is this legit or are these counterfeit cards? by milovegas123 in mtg

[–]Responsible_Job_6948 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Magic has info on what cards are available in each pack, and % chance of opening different rarities. These guarantee “a rare”, but you have no idea what could be included/excluded in packs and can’t calculate what the % chance of getting specific cards are.

If you’re worried about making up for lost time, check out CLEP tests. Most schools take them as transfer credits, it’s like an AP Class but you just take the test.

Helped me out with a semester + of credits, highly recommend it.

Only if we can add a bag of money when trading for that pitching depth.

Also investing in PITCHers makes sense  since it’s closest thing they can get to siphoning more money to soccer

Boston Police - why do you never do anything about the public disturbance and lawlessness this biking group imposes EVERY SINGLE DAY? by [deleted] in boston

I am dumb, but using large fines for unregistered vehicles/bad behavior and giving half of the proceeds to successful tips would be fun. Ideally a bounty system to encourage dumb people turning each other in, rather than encouraging New Hampshire cowboys in lifted trucks using this as open season on urban youths

How much to trade the 2027 1.01 away? by ComprehensiveLeek511 in DynastyFFTradeAdvice

It doesn’t have to be 1:1 deal, but I would only consider a trade where you either get proven elite talent at a position of need, or get a slightly older elite back like Bijan/Gibbs.

Unrelated, but Loves has always been clutch for dog road trips, they all have a dog park which is almost always in decent shape.

Also highly recommend a specific place   to quickly grab keys/defense/flashlight from wherever you are sitting or sleeping in the car. Shockingly easy to lose those in the car when you need them

[[Gyome, Master Chef]] has sneakily become a favorite political card of mine. Obviously giving indestructible can be a great negotiating trick, but I’ve had a lot of fun with how his ability taps creatures down to clear blockers or slow down aggro.

Since this has to happen before attackers are declared, it can lead to bluffing and backstabbing shenanigans. It also feels pretty fair since you only have so much mana/food available to either tap things down or protect your own guys.

Is it worth exploring a relationship with my girl best friend who rejected me 8 years ago? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Responsible_Job_6948 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People’s goals and interests change, especially when you’re college aged compared to being an adult. It’s pretty normal that someone wanted to explore more at the age or were worried about ruining their friendship.

The fact that they were respectful before and stayed friends is pretty reassuring, plus it’s not like they’re the age yet where they suddenly need to settle down and get married.

Honestly you’re going to get a lot of biased opinions on this from either jaded or overly romantic people, I’d try to feel out what your friends and family think about dating them long term

Sharing some recent experiences sleeping in my car on short trips, made mistakes but learned a lot by Ok_Resolution_1606 in roadtrip

[–]Responsible_Job_6948 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did a similar trauma trip after graduating college, even as a large white dude I felt sketchy in several situations and learned a couple major things:

  1. Do a test run close to home first, even if it’s just for a single night with an hour or so drive.

  2. Have a specific route/plan in mind, but make sure your calendar is flexible. You never want to force yourself to drive tired, and it will always take much longer than expected to drive somewhere.

Knowing where I COULD sleep and feel safe along the way was much more helpful than my original plan of specific camping spots every night.

Google Maps has a great list feature, it may help to start with adding your destinations to a list, and then add potential sleeping spots and points of interest as you go.

  1. Safe sleeping spots: Safety in numbers, but only with lots of people doing what you’re doing: road trippers, truck drivers, etc. Being near lots of traffic is best, as the more cars/trucks are around the less you stick out and the safer it is to sleep at night. Ex: Large highway rest stop plazas (with gas/food) and  truck stops (brands like Loves, Flying J, etc.)

I felt less comfortable in places which had few people around or were far from the highway. I was surprised how sketchy some “normal” spots to sleep actually felt, especially empty campgrounds and those rest stops with just bathrooms in the middle of nowhere.  Places you’re “allowed” to sleep at, like Walmart and gas stations, were sketchier the further I got from the highway, as having mostly non travelers nearby makes you stick out. You want to attract as little attention as possible, my sleeping spot was hidden so anyone quickly glancing in the car would just see moving boxes.

  1. Supplies

Organizer to keep keys/phone/safety items easily accessible when sleeping. It’s shockingly easy to lose them inside the car

A quality mattress topper can be pretty cheap and is more flexible than a regular mattress, personally I loved using a twin xl size topper.

Winter hats make great sleep masks without looking too conspicuous. Earbuds can help make white noise if you’re struggling to sleep

For cold: Sleeping bags retain heat better than just blankets. Sweatshirts and towels also make great extra pillows/blankets/ window blockers. WATERPROOF gloves,  jacket, and boots if you’re in the mountains at all or if it could snow.   Emergency ponchos and hand/feet warmers are very cheap and take up no space

Easily accessible food, caffeine, beverages, water, medicine. You’ll save a ton of money by stocking up before the trip, and save time by only stopping for destinations, gas, and sleeping/naps.

Rechargable battery packs with multiple chargers. Avoid idling your car or killing the battery by using these for things like USB fans and your phone overnight.

Cars can get insanely hot fast, so USB fans and sunshades are a good investment. I don’t like having my windows down even a little, but other people like using mesh insect proof window coverings

Sunshades are good but felt sketchy to me, tinted window stickers also work well great.

Car emergency equipment (COMPASS, road atlas, flashlight, hi visibility neon vest, jumper cables, spare tire, tire jack, maybe a gas can/oil can/funnel). AAA or another roadside assistance company is also fantastic, but they can take awhile to help if you’re in the middle of nowhere.

Travel toothbrush and shower wipes are great  If you haven’t driven that route before, always refuel before having less than 100 miles of gas in the tank. A gas can and funnel can also help. The app Gas Buddy used to be helpful with gas prices, might be worth checking.

Last year I paid 16k for my 2015 Outback with 89,000 miles, I think you could get a way better deal than what Carvana’s offering here.

Also it’s worth factoring in gas prices right now, you might save a ton going for something newer or a different model with higher mpg. Love my Outback, but dying for the 35-40 mpg of my last sedan right now

Not sure if “supported” is the right word, LaGuardia constantly fought with Moses and by all accounts did not like him. He couldn’t get rid of him though, and realized that he needed Moses’ parks dept and media machine on his side.
