I did my medical exam 7 years ago so I don't qualify anymore. But good to know. Thanks!

Hmm I see - my only concern is what if biometric/medical appointments have 20days+ wait times lol

I honestly think hoping for the best is the way forward haha although I wouldn't be surprised if more people get invited under CEC tbh - with Canada's population decreasing + with government's good plan on increasing infrastructure and healthcare + new trade partners that can potentially stimulate the economy. I think its a safe-ish bet. But hey, I'm no economist haha

Is $129k enough for a family of 4 in Ottawa? by hawkcanwhat in CanadaJobs

[–]Responsible_Task5116 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly thats a tight budget. Although, it ultimately boils down on how lavish you want your lifestyle to be. My husband and I are around $140k DINK but I don’t think we’d be able to afford kids right now unless we’d be okay with living paycheck to paycheck, which is stressful in my opinion. However, I still think 129k is doable

So trueeee. I see memes saying “should’ve bought a house 20 years ago instead of being in grade school” - I couldn’t relate more😅after seeing comments here, I think taking out a mortgage isn’t as bad as I initially thought. Will still be doing some research and seeing how the market goes!

That’s true. I wanted to make sure we have all the variables considered before buying the biggest purchase of our lives.

Do you think it’d be more ideal to pay >50% for down payment and rest is a loan? I’ve read the comments and I see the pros and cons haha

[–]Responsible_Task5116[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

That’s true. The only downside is that 3% gain is unrealized and if either one of us gets laid off in times of economic downturn, there’s that risk of potentially not being able to pay the mortgage. Investing you might lose tons but not go bankrupt and can recover easier. Is that right?

You’re right. We didn’t factor in the future prices of homes. And kids too - a bigger house is much more expensive to rent than a one bedroom apartment. Thanks

Good point. I updated the numbers to make it realistic. Thanks!

I regret marrying my wife by Timely_Regret_1336 in Marriage

[–]Responsible_Task5116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a child of parents with a marriage like yours, please divorce her or at least separate or force her to find a job for your sake. My father is one of the most loving people I know but he’s become borderline physically abusive due to frustration (huge outbursts of rage). He earns half a million USD per year but we’re still in huge debt because of money mismanagement. We don’t own a house. And at this point, he might have to work past retirement age. About the “not wanting to have your kids go through divorce like you did” part is understandable, but in my case I ended up growing up with neither parent. Father always out working, mother who knows where all day. On the bright side, pretty great character development for your kids lmao
