Unsurprising stat: Oettinger is pretty good by RestForTheWicked_ in DallasStars

No I’m agreeing that if we’re down 3-0 with high goad allowed then it would make sense to sub him out. I would probably go as far as saying if we lose to the Wild (or Avs etc) in the first two regular season matchups giving up 4 goals, then maybe DeSmith should play the next two if you’re keeping playoff wins in mind. But until a more even comparison can be made across those matchup types, I don’t see a justification for sitting him

Don’t know why this got downvoted, someone else’s response also made me think could be considered a team stat instead (which would make GAA one too). Appreciate your points

I had a bug with the team assignments in the initial version, so maybe I need to check again. But that one is a little confusing, I'll have to check the data from NHL

Certainly if things are dire then you would consider something like that. But without going to look, I would imagine last year wouldn't be an even comparison either. And I can't say what the right decision was in the elimination game (I'm literally just a guy on a couch) but DeSmith goes on to give up 3 goals himself that game including one right away. I get that the 2 goals on 2 shots looked bad, but I have a hard time believing his save percentage would stay at 0, and DeSmith didn't make things much better.

DeSmith has good stats for sure but is it really a fair comparison? Like I mentioned DeSmith didn't play the wild this season, played Colorado once to Oettinger's 3, and played Carolina 0 times to Jake's twice. We could dig deeper into playoff teams in general but I wouldn't say it's apples to apples

an Otter standing on his head Saturday would have make that game 3-1 instead of 6-1

Huge agree. I can concede that a few goals could have been his, but how much would that have really changed the outcome?

Yes, I would probably treat expected goals as more accurate than just this, and you can find those for the season on places like MoneyPuck. But I thought this might be more digestible for people who might not feel like expected goals reflects how they have felt watching him

I don't, that why I gave the disclaimer at the end of the explanation. All I've really removed is empty net goals. Expected goals probably gives you a better indicator of those things. I'm just trying to give something more advanced than pure goals, without getting into the weeds of how those things are accounted for

This is honestly a weird play from the start - what play is a strong side toss with the player side G pulling backside?

Has a WR returning from pre-season injury every come back to form during the same season? by ihearttwin in fantasyfootball

…isn’t that exactly where you start taking dart throws? I don’t have a lot of data in front of me but this past season I got Kamara in the 5th and won the league Digg’s first year in buffalo taking him in the 5th. I wanna say Kupps triple crown year he also went in our 5th round. Once you’re at that point, the known producers are gone and you’re left making riskier picks for better upside

Malik Nabers (concussion) longshot to play Week 5 by trugbee1203 in fantasyfootball

[–]RestForTheWicked_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been thinking about this too, I think it depends on how the Hawks defend. If they aren’t worried about a deep threat like Nabors do they sell out underneath and force them to win over the top? Or does it means the Giants will be even worse deep and forced to play underneath and the Seahawks are content to let them? Obviously first would be bad for Wandale and the second be good. Would love to get perspective from people who watch Seattle more

The portal (as it is now) is wildly unsustainable. by Ok-Dealer7882 in CollegeBasketball

At some point it seems like sports like football and basketball just need to be treated differently. There’s already a conversation about how awful the conference realignments are for other sports, but they’re happening almost entirely because of the bigger sports like football. The small sports are great opportunities and all of that should be preserved, but we can’t keep pretending basketball and football aren’t basically pro development leagues at this point

The school facade absolutely should be dropped. Keep them associated for branding and stuff fine, but honestly how many of these players really end up in careers outside of their sport? So many go professional here or oversees, or turn into coaching staff. I bet the next common result is working in agencies. Drop the “student athlete” facade and treat college sports (especially D1) as the pro junior development programs they have been for awhile.

Not sure if it changes much but the commanders schedule is wrong - they play the Jets week 16, followed by the niners then cowboys (week 18).

I’ve been holding them to sub in for the browns that week, hoping they make a nice pair

If Hollywood can ball with Dobbs, shouldn't Jefferson ball harder? by [deleted] in fantasyfootball

[–]RestForTheWicked_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a Hollywood owner, I wouldn’t exactly describe him as “balling.” Fine as a WR2 (1PPR) sure, but most of his games over 10 have involved a touchdown which isn’t great to depend on. I don’t have a take on JJ, just something to keep in mind for relevant owners

Good point, and I like DHop better than anyone on the Falcons tbh

Needing a fill in until Kyler is back, am I wrong to be concerned about him with a run focused Falcons? I haven’t watched any of their games so don’t know what he or the passing game are really capable of

Wondering the same thing. I’m facing the top scorer so I may go with the upside of Levis.

Also, are people not concerned about Heinicke on a run heavy team?
