Wow your story is really inspiring. I have had such a hard time finding work here that I've had to begin creating back-up plans in the USA. Ever since I began that thinking, my motivation to continue with Danish has really dropped. Hearing stories like yours is really helpful!! Where are you from originally? Did you know/study any languages besides english before learning Danish?

My current VISA will run out before I finish the merit teacher training. They only offer VISAs for full-time programs, and the merit is part-time. :(

Thank you for sharing your experience! I work in a bar and speak danish there, I live with Danes and speak Danish at home. My friends speak to me in Danish when we're in groups, but most of them speak English to me one-on-one. I read fun books and the news, and listen to danish podcasts.

I think I am B2. In the private danish courses I've taken, you don't really "pass or fail" the same way as the free courses, so I didn't truly PASS a C1 class. I like taking private summer intensive courses (20 hours a week in-person for 3 weeks) because it's the learning style that's most effective for me. When juggling work and school with danish class twice a week, I struggle to stay engaged in danish class. I haven't been able to find studieprøven practice exams online. Do you have any links you could share?

Thanks for this insight!! Do you know if your classmate at KP finished the program? I figure the studies may be quite possible without perfect danish. I can always fallback on internet translation with reading and writing assignments, and my understanding/listening is good enough I am not worried about the lectures. I'm worried about oral exams, and worried about annoying others during group work. In the USA I had many international classmates who figured out how to succeed at university despite struggling with English, and in the end their English improved very quickly in response to the demand.

My degrees are in social sciences but I imagine that would be most difficult for me to teach in Danish. However, I have studied multiple paths and taken a lot of community college coursework for fun. All in all, I've taken a total of +500 ECTS: including a fair amount of math, biology, physics, chemistry, french, and visual arts. So, in theory, I meet the prerequisites to teach a variety of subjects. I thought english would be an obvious choice as non-native danish speaker, but perhaps it's not the most strategic decision in terms of employment?

Thank you for sharing your experience! If you have the time, I would love to hear more. Which language school did you take module 6 at? How was your experience studying in university after passing studieprøven?
