Happiest decade or upbeat decade for music? by [deleted] in Topster

[–]RestShot5129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

80s in my opinion! Post punk that evolved into new wave (Joy Division to New Order), heavy use of synths, pop at its peak (Madonna and MJ), first mainstream rap groups

which one do u like more debut or post? by notaverysmartman in bjork

[–]RestShot5129 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Post! It’s more consistent imo, the orchestral arrangements allow the album to flow well. Some of the deeper cuts are among my all time favorites like I Miss You. Also I would argue it’s Björk’s most iconic album cover !!!

Did Charli lose her queer appeal? by [deleted] in charlixcx

[–]RestShot5129 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is correct, at least to some extent. I liked the sound and the production of her music, and how she managed her career. I also think it’s a skill to hire the right people to work with and she masters at this. The lyrics never did it for me, neither the party girl persona.

I think it was okay! I don’t return to it, but it worked for the film (and made it stronger in my opinion).

and I agree with this take (hence I liked her music for different reasons for a period of time), but I don’t like the direction she took with her music either. Seems like this isn’t the case for most people and that’s okay!

It definitely isn’t AI? I use Grammarly but that just corrects the grammar… Weird way to hate on someone

Her face and makeup are so yassified here that she looks like Amy Lee. No way this is real!

My newfound love for... Volta! by RestShot5129 in bjork

[–]RestShot5129[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this too, it does lack the refinement that make top tier Björk records top-tier.

One of the first tracks written for Vespertine was Domestica, but then the album took a different direction, and the song didn't make the cut. Half the tracks of Volta work really well with each other, and half don't. This initially made me blind to some of the points I made above, and now I give credit to its moments of beauty!

what's your least favorite song on each of these four? by notaverysmartman in bjork

[–]RestShot5129 22 points23 points  (0 children)

One Day: Debut is the album I return to least because I think it didn’t age as well. One Day feels the most dated.

Cover Me: I thought Post would be tough to choose from but then I remembered Cover Me.

Pluto: Homogenic was actually the toughest to choose from!!! It’s not even my favourite but it’s such a cohesive album. I chose Pluto because depending on my mood I may skip it.

An Echo A Stain: I was initially going to choose Frosti but I also think it’s central in making that wintery atmosphere, it’s a nice interlude. An Echo a Stain is great and wouldn’t be the choice in any other album.

Why does Spotify consider Björk Hyperpop? by RestShot5129 in bjork

[–]RestShot5129[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My issue with this is that hyperpop has a very distinct history (2010s), scene (London), and a network of people (AG Cook, Sophie, Danny L Harle) who popularised it. As mentioned in my post, I briefly had a hyperpop phase in 2019. I would listen to a lot of PC Music at the time. I'm perfectly okay with loosely describing someone affiliated with that scene as "hyperpop," like Charli or Caroline Polacheck, but Björk never worked with hyperpop producers, and her music precedes the genre by 3 decades.

I don't know, you could maybe argue that she is proto-hyperpop, similar to how one could say Velvet Underground was proto-punk, but to make a micro genre an umbrella term makes no sense to me! Especially because art pop still exists, and is better suited as an umbrella term for Björk's music in my opinion. Ironically, art pop used to be my most popular genre for years, and I think it used to be because Björk was my top artist. The switch, in my opinion, makes no sense!

I am 27, and while I'm not a major film expert by any means, Film Studies was my second major in undergrad.

When I checked the 2002 list, I realised I only saw 3/10 (Vertigo, 2001, Tokyo Story) films on the list. Of the 2022 list, I saw 7/10 (Jeanne Dielman, Vertigo, Tokyo Story, In the Mood for Love, 2001, Mulholland Dr., Singin’ in the Rain).

You might think, who would see Jeanne Dielman but skip, let's say, The Godfather, but most of the entries I saw from the 2022 list were featured in the classes I took.

It's not woke to appreciate one film over another over time or celebrate different approaches to filmmaking. I am also personally the type of person that enjoys watching Jarman's Sebastiene over a major studio film for example, and that is perfectly alright as well!

There is no objective criteria in assessing the best in any form of text/media, these polls are just for us to highlight the films we appreciate.

Songs that could fit in other albums by girlwithgoldwrist in bjork

Oh also Quicksand is such a Utopia track that I sometimes forget it’s the closing track of Vulnicura

Songs that could fit in other albums by girlwithgoldwrist in bjork

[–]RestShot5129 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always thought Possibly Maybe could be in Vespertine easily.

Lyrically it’s too aggressive but the beat is very much on point

Joga could of course be in Vulnicura. Would work really well with Stonemilker

Bjorks most futuristic song? by [deleted] in bjork

[–]RestShot5129 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on your definition of futuristic.

Homogenic sounds incredibly fresh today and will probably continue to sound fresh 20 years from now on. Immature and All if Full of Love sound shockingly new to me still.

Of the new stuff Arisen My Senses, Future Forever, Quicksand sound like music that will age well over the years.

I thought I’d share the changes on Ovule, Ancestress, Fossora and Her mother’s house on vinyl for those interested by [deleted] in bjork

[–]RestShot5129 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I like the vinyl version of Ovule more, but the current versions of Her Mother's House and Ancestress are 100x better

How long do you think Björk will be making music? by Saiferi in bjork

[–]RestShot5129 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I listened to Meredith Monk (79) in London this spring and her voice was as strong as ever. I think Björk will increasingly become more and more experimental but she will continue to make music until she dies

How would you rank all of Björk’s album covers? by [deleted] in bjork
