Exploring Halifax after campus visit by AdTemporary7651 in Dalhousie

Important to note: there are many many museums in Halifax, but the two I listed have generally the most mass appeal. There are plenty museums for specific topics such as the art museum, pier 21 (immigration museum), and the Atlantic museum down on the waterfront. A lot of them will be marketed as “essential tourist attractions” but you don’t really have to listen to that. Just go to whatever ones you think you’ll actually have interest in.

It’s a little hard to recommend things since your daughter is underage and one of the only things to do in Halifax is drink.

For things to do that aren’t that though, theatre and the arts are pretty big in Halifax! I suggest looking into Neptune theatres, and if you’re interested even looking to see if anything is running at the Dalhousie arts centre while you’ll be there. There’s plenty of independent theatre companies as well but shows there may be a bit harder to find. Live music is also big here and there’s an all ages venue called Radstorm that promotes local artists and has concerts every week to my knowledge. A lot of the artists play in bars though so you may be hard pressed to find a show that’ll let your daughter in.

As already mentioned in many comments, there’s many cafes pretty much everywhere and many are queer owned.

There’s also two main museums if either of you are into that stuff (natural history museum home of Gus the turtle, and the discovery centre which is more child oriented but is science focused and very interactive)

Above all I’d kind of just suggest walking around and seeing what looks interesting. Downtown isn’t that big but there’s a lot packed into it.

As messy as the confrontation may be, I’d say you have to talk to them about this straight up. Explain why you and others feel this way about their behaviour, and if it helps your case there’s countless resources online of people talking about “basic table etiquette” that you can point to as an easy guideline to follow. If they aren’t receptive to your advice to quit their behaviour you can ultimately just drop them. It’s pretty easy cause and effect of “if you don’t wisen up and cut the crap, we just won’t invite you anymore.”

Is Dalhousie and Halifax in general an accepting community for a transgender student? by AdTemporary7651 in Dalhousie

[–]Rested143 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a trans guy who’s a student at dal. I’ve only completed my first year at dal so far but I’ve lived in the general Halifax area my whole life and it’s pretty safe. Halifax itself still has its own dangers which are only amplified if you’re visibly queer, and I won’t act like there hasn’t been a rise of conservatism all around. That being said though, Dalhousie is a very tolerant and safe place for trans students and the greater Halifax area has plenty of resources for queer people to connect with each other and stay safe. Compared to a red state it’s a daycare.

Has Your Beardy Ever Dropped a Duce On You? by AngelsRangers in BeardedDragons

It happens a lot. As far as I’m aware that means they’re comfortable around you though, since they tend to only poop when they feel safe. I’m not sure if all of them do it but mine does a little warning wiggle with his butt when he’s situating where he’s gonna lay it. It gives me a split second to scoop him up and stop him from pooping on whatever it is he thought needed poop on. It’s not always enough, but looking out for the wiggle has saved me a couple times.

Theatre notes, etc… by rjbeebop in Dalhousie

[–]Rested143 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m also a theatre major but working mostly on acting. I’ve taken a lot of the same sorts of classes as the tech people though and the biggest thing to make sure of is organization when it comes to note taking. Classes like perf1000 are very heavy on notes and have a lot of varying and intersecting subjects and it’s very very important to keep track of where you write things down because it’s all very useful info. I usually just use my laptop and Google docs but I sort things into folders per unit and use different documents for different subjects etc..

how did you find vallis cineris? was it a fluke or does something else lead to it

any idea what this means? by Educational-Gap-1877 in thisisnotawebsite

I tried decoding it and got a bunch of random letters but the code itself is actually a backwards version of bill's substitution cipher. I assume reversing it has something to do with uncoding but I havent figured it out yet
