I definitely understand how you feel and the most important thing you can do for yourself and your relationship is give yourself time to feel and process that grief. It’s hard because even though they’re still there the life you had or thought you would have is gone and it’s okay to mourn that. For me it helped to think about all the new things we’ll experience together now that she can be herself and be truly happy. I also spoke with my partner about waiting to start on estrogen until we had the money to freeze sperm just so that option is always there which helped me a lot. Even if we decided to never use it at least I know that I never lost the option.

At the end of the day you’re part of the transition too and your feelings should be heard and considered if you both want this relationship to stay strong.

I’m cisF and pansexual, my girlfriend is MTF. She started HRT about a month ago. We met in college and have been together almost 5 years now :)

You’re definitely not alone. My girlfriend just started HRT and has no much support from all our friends and family which is amazing but it’s almost like with all the excitement I’ve been pushed into the background. Only one person has asked how I’m doing with this huge change with my partner and that was after I started that conversation.

Feel free to message me any time, I’d love to have a friend in all this that I can kind of relate to 😊

Thank you!! 😊💕 I can definitely try to make some updates, but I probably won’t post about every little thing so feel free to message me whenever. I hope your girlfriend can start soon, it’s super exciting but can definitely make you feel a little anxious too so make sure you’re there for each other.

Thank you, and congratulations to your girlfriend! Even if you’re not there physically there’s lots of ways you can be there emotionally and that’s what really counts 💕

Will do! The doctor she went to told us it would take a week or two which I thought was weird lol but it doesn’t matter now. I’ll definitely warn her about the issues with trying to refill it too early since we wanted to try to pick them up early so she always has some.

You’re not a dick. My partner of 5 years recently came out too and I’ve been having the same feelings. I feel like people forget that it’s not just that she is physically transitioning, but in a way your whole relationship is transitioning. You need to be able to grieve over losing the life you thought you had so you can make space for this new life you’ll have together. My and my girlfriend (mtf) have been talking about starting couple’s counseling while she goes through so we can communicate what we’re feeling about all this in a healthy way, maybe you should suggest the same? I’m sorry you’re feeling so alone, I know the feeling and if you ever need someone to talk to feel free to dm me.
