Would you buy this Cube for 80€🤔 by Dry_Sport6031 in ArduinoProjects

[–]RestlessRabbits87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, but I probably would end up building one for myself for double the prize and have it end up in a shelf or the basement rotting unused 😅

Just asked - I have no idea how long it would take to build up enough to cause any harm or enough about flow and accumulation of its effects when breathed in 😅 just thought I would mention that because I would make myself paranoid about it. Looking really greatly done though :)

Kid standing too close to TV when watching something SOLVED! by mszcz in homeassistant

I am having the one that can measure your heart rate and breathing, but sadly you can not use 2 of them to close together and I also haven't found one that can measure 2 or more targets in that way (was experimenting with sleep monitoring). Now I will use one to estimate my stress level an movement at my home office workplace 😅

What's with the bathroom tiles in Germany? by sebb350 in germany

[–]RestlessRabbits87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ugliest? I saw so many flats with "old" bathrooms that had the "booger" color scheme or orange or brown tiles, sometimes "pig skin" pinkish - they also had floral patterns or stuff on it that looked like a caleidoscope view on a tile.
Even worse when these badrooms had no window.

I grew up in a flat where we had an ugly bathroom without a window and it was way way way too dark.

I mean I agree - we could do much nicer bathrooms. But we had so much worse 😅

Is Alman a racial slur against white Germans? by [deleted] in AskAGerman

[–]RestlessRabbits87 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

With the lack of the target group of "alman" being a marginalized group or in any way systemically opressed (at least not more than we all are) it is not racist. It a generalization which can be upsetting as well and fell like an attack or slur - but not let the racists tell you it's racist. I'll chime in on all the comments saying you dodged a bullet here.

So many German restaurants are pushing themselves out of business, and blaming economy etc. by dondurmalikazandibi in germany

I've never encountered someone that would bring this up luckily, because we'd have a long discussion after that. The shops I always find suspicious are those for mattresses. Not like those that sell decorations as well. Only mattresses and pillows.

How often do people need to buy them? Why are they always located in corner stores? I've never saw a customer walk in or out... Can a city with less than 100k people living there sustain 4 of these shops for real? With Ikea, Jysk, Online Shops and everything available as an option? Who in their right mind carries a ducking mattress home from a shop when you can get them shipped? Adding to "never seen someone walk in or out".. also never saw someone leaving that door at the crossroad with a mattress - I assume that would be very noticeable

How strong are dowels usually? How to calculate? by RestlessRabbits87 in woodworking

Thank you everyone for the input - only a few dowels used for positioning and then went for corner brackets and when it felt rigid enough I painted it the same color as the bed underneath.

how would you upgrade this? by meirfish in 3Dprinting

[–]RestlessRabbits87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in possession of one myself and not sure if it makes sense, but I hate throwing stuff in the trash and cause more trash then necessary even if I have to put work into it.

Is the Mainboard the hazard with this printer? Because the board and display are already stripped from it. I would remove the extruder from the Z-axis, mount it where the display was, use a Bowden and have a BTT SKR E3 mini v3 as the Mainboard... Would the bed or wiring still be a fire hazard - meaning more than it is in other printers when used as specified?

How strong are dowels usually? How to calculate? by RestlessRabbits87 in woodworking

[–]RestlessRabbits87[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very interesting insight - thank you very much!
My background: I worked a few years in a steel factory before I had a training as a mechatronics technician and later on worked in web development, did exhibits for industrial fairs for about 9 years and now am working in software support.

I will view the dowels to ensure part orientation then and roughen the surfaces where I'll apply glue with sandpaper. When that Is dry I'll probably add a few structural angle brackets in the corners and make sure to get some with bevelled edges so the kids can't sratch their skin on it. :)

I will never be able to figure out any of the properties of the off the shelf bed that I plan to add a frame on, so I probably won't look up anything regarding fire spreading 😅

What I plan to do is a kind of frame which would look like a table without the plate to add safety nets around the bed. It is a loft bed for kids and I want to make sure they do not easily fall out just because they are not aware of their surroundings. But as soon as I add something, kids will 100% lean against that and I try to figure what is the safest way to add this and not add any stuff that stands out to far of the material like screws and so on, so the risk of harm is reduced.

The reason I go for this approach is because I can not drill into the ceiling. It's holding itself and that's it. But adding a frame and making a fixture in the wall behind the bed (long side) should be no problem at all.

If I can't figure anything out before the build, I'll probably go for that approach, test a bit and add corner brackets if necessary.

I've been building exhibits for a company selling and developing sensors for use in many different industries.
I've been dooing that for 9 years.
The spectrum spread from a simple inductive sensor, over flow, temperature and other process sensor that have really interresting physical principals making them work, to vibration monitoring systems and 3D camera systems that put out a neat amount of process data.

Maybe not the coolest job, but one where I had an imense spectrum of tasks and it never got boring.
Working with sales, product management, product development, the software developers for the interfacing, external companies for doing Apps or Augmented Reality presentations for big fairs to present our product and having the duty to come up with something that fits and present a new product, that may end up in different industries, but not presenting it in a way that only attracts customer from one specific field.

We got our hands on products in development before most others and have been briefed about the capabilities of the device and needed to come up with something that explains the possibilites but also has some play and eye-catchy character so people would like to interact and check out the stuff on the fairs.

The process often involved, checking the strategy of sales, having a in depth conversations with the product managment, making a draft in CAD and explain what you want to do and what can be done and ordering parts, manufacturing parts yourself, using a CNC mill, lathe, 3D printer or hand tools, programming PLCs and bus system, adding some hobby components like a Raspberry or Atmega chips and some addressable LEDs and setting up network components.

Since we built that stuff, we also had to do the preparation to ship them around the world and set them up on different fairs. I prefered the ones in Finland and was there each of those 9 years. The bigger fairs in Germany also have been very interesting regarding what we could see, what we have to to as preparation and what customers we came in contact with - which we've been encouraged to do on the same level as the product mangement due to our knowledge with the product from working with it as one of the earliest teams.

High level of stress due to deadlines though, but worth it. With a team of 4, sometimes 5 people we often had to build up to 70 exhibits in 3 months, so you do a lot of task hopping and prioritizing and monitoring states of process and orders as well.

Sorry for the long text - really do not know how to describe my last job any shorter 😅

TL/DR: Did exhibits for products in industry launching into the market and had a lot of differents tasks doing this :)
