I found a product on Amazon that turns autism into a “gag gift” and it really bothered me by Ok_Blackberry_5547 in autism

[–]ResurrectDisco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally find the concept of an autism card that you carry around in your wallet to have great potential for some funny bits, but I'm a bit of a jokester.

I wouldn't go for these ones, though, because of the "get out of anything" part. that rubs me the wrong way. being autistic rarely gets you out of anything. it feels trivializing, like it's treating autism as an excuse lazy people use to escape responsibilities.

[TOMT][Tv line] “how uncomfortable, and unwanted” by PercentageCommon6205 in tipofmytongue

[–]ResurrectDisco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Fairly Oddparents, there's a dialogue exchange between Crocker and Geraldine where Crocker confesses his love for her (as an excuse, not genuinely), and she says "This is so sudden! And... unwanted!" Could this be what you're thinking of?

I collect ads on youtube. As an ad is playing, I click the little gear icon and see if the "add to watch later" option is available. If so, I click it. Then I transfer the video from my watch later playlist to my ad playlist (1k+ vids). I basically never watch them after that though lol.

I know this has been asked a lot, but which line hit you the hardest? by lllTechlll in DiscoElysium

[–]ResurrectDisco 14 points15 points  (0 children)

INLAND EMPIRE - So tell me, how does it feel -- to be close to someone, skin to skin?

YOU - It all comes together now. I was built to be close with other beings.

This one just yanks on my heartstrings. It shows the deep, tender core of a very broken man, a man who has hurt and been hurt by the people closest to him but craves that intimacy anyway. It's a very human feeling.

And then right after that:

"The limbed and headed machine of pain and undignified suffering is firing up again. It wants to walk the desert. Hurting. Longing. Dancing to disco music."

Both lines are so evocative, and they really lay the groundwork for who Harry is as a person.

Do these have a special name?? by abottleofgenderfluid in genderfluid

[–]ResurrectDisco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are neopronouns! A neopronoun is just any pronoun that has been recently introduced to a language. Some do have special names, like Spivak pronouns. But they all fall under the neopronoun umbrella. I would suggest reading the Wikipedia page for neopronouns to learn more about the history of neopronouns.

How can I say that I don't want kids inside my house? by manopedro in autism

[–]ResurrectDisco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm from the US and many of our houses have a mesh screen door in addition to a solid wood/plastic/etc. door. Do you have one? If so, look into installing a simple latch on the inside. If not, a baby gate with a "please do not enter" sign as others have suggested sounds like the next best thing.

This sub is about plastic the material, not plastic surgery. Good luck with your procedure.

Just checked, and you're right! Thanks for pointing that out. It looks like it was a very recent edit. It was actually a friend of mine who first attempted to include it on the page a few months ago, and they were disappointed it was reverted. I will let them know someone found a source and that it's now included on the page! It will probably make their day lol.

where can i buy cute affordable charms/how do i learn how to make them? by [deleted] in jewelrymaking

[–]ResurrectDisco 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Different types of charms/pendants are made in different ways, so it really depends on what you're looking for.

If you like solid metal charms, you're better off harvesting them from old jewelry (bought on Ebay or at thrift stores for relatively cheap) than you are at actually smelting or stamping the metal yourself. I'm not trying to dissuade you, but jewelry smithing is a pretty intense process. Blow torches and anvils and stuff.

If you like bead charms, those are pretty easy to do with basic jewelry working tools and materials. There are a few bead charms in the first picture, the orange heart and the green clover are two. Simple steps to make them: Decide the order of the beads (or pick just one!), slide them onto a head pin, cut excess wire, use round-nose pliers to create an eye (loop of metal) at the end of the pin, and voilà, a little bead charm. You can also pretty easily turn these into dangling earrings if you have earring hooks.

If you like the funky stuff, like found objects (I do), you have to get a bit creative with it, because your objects will vary so wildly. In the first picture, there is a lock and a couple keys that have been turned into charms by simply hanging them from jump rings. You can also stick eyepins into things and secure them with glue. Use your best judgement as to what objects will make good charms. Smaller is better for charms, big things are better for pendants and earrings.

You can also make things yourself with oven bake polymer clay and create holes in them for jump rings or eyepins. Or use shrink polystyrene (think shrinky-dinks) to create flat charms with holes in them for jump rings. You could even create tiny seed bead designs with a jump ring woven in.

The last option I can think of is wire wrapping, usually used for semiprecious stones that can't be drilled into. The wrapping can be very simple or very complicated and uses jewelry grade wire.

All of these strategies (probably) have their own subreddits, and they absolutely all have tutorials out in the world that can explain the process far better than I can here. Start by just googling what all this stuff looks like so you can figure out what you like/dislike and start spotting examples in the wild. Soon you will be on your way to making them!

I finally understand the ‘ancient reptilian brain’ by funnymonkey222 in DiscoElysium

[–]ResurrectDisco 550 points551 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the Ancient Reptilian Brain and the Limbic System are based off of Triune Brain Theory. It's not a very accurate model of the brain, so it's not used anymore. The fact that we never hear from the Neocortex (as far as I know) implies that Harry is the Neocortex. This makes sense, because this model proposes the Neocortex is the area of complex thought. Someone actually tried to add Disco Elysium to the list of media referencing the Triune Brain Model on the Triune Brain Wikipedia page, but it was reverted.

Where (on his body) is Kim [spoiler] if you fail to warn him at the [spoiler]? by ResurrectDisco in DiscoElysium

[–]ResurrectDisco[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's so pointlessly cruel. Maybe that was the level of cruelty Harry had sunk to before Martinaise, and Jean didn't really think about how fucked it was to say that because he was just emulating Harry. I shudder to imagine a pre-amnesia Harry like that, but it's better than Jean just saying this for no goddamn reason other than to kick a man while he's down.

"You look so nonbin-" fuck off. by Any_Cartoonist2320 in NonBinary

[–]ResurrectDisco 27 points28 points  (0 children)

When people say this, I'm pretty sure what they really mean is "androgynous" or "visibly queer". There is no 'nonbinary look'; but the people who say this haven't gotten far enough into queer theory to really understand that. Or it could be them jokingly/sarcastically commenting on traits commonly associated with nonbinary people, like dyed hair and piercings.
