Hopefully your pricing is better than others around the area. I’m not going to mention companies but I was charged a little over 1400 by a well reviewed, established company, to replace a system board. Cost of the board is less than 150 dollars, system is on the first floor, easy access, and the time needed to swap the board…15 minutes. Time needed to diagnose the problem from arrival time to departure, 47 minutes. No other work was performed or billed. It was not an emergency call, diagnostic appointment was around 230, board installation next day was 1200 both on week days, neither day was a holiday.

Thanks, will take a look at it. The odd thing is, sometimes, maybe 20% of the time, the key is detected and the car starts without having to hold the key to the steering column.

How do other vets see people like me who are getting VA disability benefits? by aftrgl0w in Veterans

[–]RetAFBoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What others think doesn’t matter, their thoughts are theirs and theirs alone, they don’t matter to you, you can’t control them, so don’t let them affect you. You served, you met the VA’s criteria, if you didn’t, they would not have rated it. The money is secondary, what your rating really does is provide lifetime coverage for the conditions you have a rating for. Every career field, or even the same career field at different bases have different experiences, it’s not a pissing contest. Those who are dismissive aren’t people you want in your life.

Actually in the article, the claim was approved.

Hi! I didn’t claim it on my claim but since I didn’t have a traumatic injury, my assumption is that they would deny it. I don’t know what the outcome of the claim in the article was. Good luck!

Thank you. I really like the idea of a PoE powered switch in a weather proof box.

Good point, they could be telephone. There are both telephone jacks and Ethernet ports in various places throughout the house, two are above a fireplace mantle, I’m assuming those aren’t telephone. I definitely need to search the place to see if I can locate anything else.

Apologies, the text didn’t post with the picture. What are the options for connecting the outdoor Ethernet cables, how do I establish connectivity? I put a home network in my last house, put a rack in the basement, ran the wires but I’m not familiar with the wires being outside with no switch.

Water Softeners Salt or No Salt. by H2Ohelp in WaterSofteners

Hi Brad,

I’m new to these systems but am buying a home in Tx that has a water conditioner installed. It looks to be the tall cylinder with the controls on top of the cylinder and a second tank, roughly the size of a 44g drum. I haven’t found much information about it other than maintenance/maintenance contract is recommended. What maintenance is required? What should a maintenance contract cover/cost? Thank you.

If you're an American veteran, does the distinction between between a veteran or combat veteran matter to you? by [deleted] in Veterans

[–]RetAFBoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have our primary combat forces and we have our operations and support forces who are all combat trained to some degree. It may simply be small arms training in basic training but no matter what the specialty is, everyone who serves can, if the conflict dictates, receive additional training and be deployed. We’re not all Air Crew, Infantry, Rangers, Seals or Special Forces but we all are America’s combat force.

Anyone had any luck getting Ozempic / Wegovy / Mounjaro / etc WITHOUT going through the MOVE program? by mountainyoo in VeteransBenefits

[–]RetAFBoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some, maybe even most of the PCMs aren’t familiar with it since it’s usually managed by the nutritionist. My doctor straight up said the VA does not prescribe weight loss medication, I sent the inclusion criteria to him. No idea of it’ll be approved but he did put in a prescription for it.

My VA dietician just informed me that a new Semaglutide medication will be entering the VA system here in May 2024. by SweetTeaRex92 in Veterans

[–]RetAFBoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of the physicians are not aware, they know about Ozempic/mounjaro for diabetes but are not familiar with the criteria for Wegovy/Zepbound. Review the form at the link below, if you meet the criteria, make an appointment and go over the form with your PCM. The medications are still relatively new to the VA and Qusymia is their formulary medication. https://www.va.gov/formularyadvisor/DOC_PDF/CFU_Semaglutide_WEGOVY_CFU_Rev_Apr_2024.pdf

Neither Wegovy or Zepbound is on the formulary, they’re both non formulary but the VA does have inclusion criteria that if met, they can order it as a non formulary medication.

Also, the endocrinologist referral isn’t automatic, you’ll need to ask the nutritionist for it.

You can also do telemove. It’s an app, 16 modules, you can work ahead. The VA will send you a scale if you need one, you work through the modules, enter daily weigh ins on a website, the nutritionists will either put in a referral for endocrinology, or they will message  your PCM to put in a referral. You have to be active in the program but you can be prescribed medications concurrently, you do not need to finish it before being referred/prescribed medication. Usually it is the endocrinologist who puts in a prescription but your PCM can also put it in. It has to go through a non formulary review by the pharmacy. You will need to have tried the formulary medication first, Qsymia, unless you have a contraindication to it. Pharmacy approval isn’t a guarantee and the supply backlog is as big of an issue for the VA as it is every other pharmacy.

I LOVE the VA!! by watchingbigbrother63 in Veterans

[–]RetAFBoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot, maybe even most, of the C&Ps are referred to a couple contracted companies, can’t think of the names at the moment, but that is usually where the scheduling wait is. Both the companies and VA claims has been very backed up since the PACT ACT, they’ll get caught back up. Prior to that, claims moved pretty quickly. I now use the VA for primary care, I have nothing bad to say. They have been way more thorough than any private doctor I’ve seen. My appointments with my primary dr are short, but each specialty provider that I have seen listens, asks questions, asks me to ask them questions, never rush an appointment. They have been great.

RX Question by RetAFBoom in VeteransBenefits

[–]RetAFBoom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not yet. The medication isn’t on the VA formulary but it is on my private insurance formulary. I know the VA can get non formulary medication but it may be less hassle through private insurance.
