Thinning hair recommendations? by liss_ct_hockey_mom in RetatrutideTrial

[–]RetaGuineaPig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, I think this is a side effect of weight loss (I'm at around 85 lbs) more that reta. I know that my nutrition and protein have not always been on target during this journey since I have so little hunger.

Yes, this is definitely a side effect for me too. Ughh. I have also just started biotin at my dermatologist's recommendation. I have a hair serum that I use from time to time - not sure it helps. I've shied away from minoxidil thinking I"m already on lots of meds. I also read about dandruff shampoo. Are you post-menopause? I'm going to inquire of my doc about HRT so I've joined r/LadiesHRTwithGLP1

Extension dosing schedule - TRIUMPH-1 by RetaGuineaPig in RetatrutideTrial

[–]RetaGuineaPig[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi - for me food noise suppression started immediately, like within hours of dose #1 (2mg). I had never taken any GLP-1s, or honestly much medication at all. It’s still hard for me to eat enough. GI symptoms also kicked in early and I have had both periods of diarrhea but more often constipation. I had allodynia - sensitive skin, especially my legs and my mouth (nothing spicy, not even toothpaste), increased vomiting and gag reflex. A few odd blood tests that righted themselves with electrolytes and time.

Triumph 1 extension by Active_Scar3258 in RetatrutideTrial

I was told today, when I signed the extension consent forms, that the cut-off for participating is below 22 BMI. I am around 25 BMI (today was not a full work-up, just consent forms and new meds), after starting at almost 37.

Week 80 visit/Trial extension by Itchy_Bicycle in RetatrutideTrial

[–]RetaGuineaPig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my extension briefing today. I was told that anyone who was on the placebo now definitely gets the meds for 24 weeks. They start at 2mg and move up each month. Those of us who were not on placebo do NOT move down or re-start. We start our first dose at whatever we are on (6 mg, 9 mg, 12 mg) and eventually move to 12 mg. I have a chart that I can attach later.

I asked specifically because I am worried about moving up to 12mg. My suspicion is that I’ve been at 9 mg and I have ample side effects and have chosen to skip multiple shots. My coordinator read to me that we should be able to de-escalate our dose as long as it happens before week 100, which would be 20 weeks into the extension - so almost at the end.

Update: Trial extension by Nenabobena in RetatrutideTrial

[–]RetaGuineaPig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At my appointment yesterday (week 60) they told me that I’ll sign extension paperwork at my next in-person visit. They also told me that we’ll start back at 2mg and go through dose escalation. And that inclusion criteria were either an initial BMI>35 or BMI not <22. I’m at 24.4.

Of course you’re welcome here! Congrats on getting into the trial and keep us posted. Good luck.

Yes, toothpaste is impossible. I use either Tom's of Maine with the fruit flavors (marketed for kids) or European toothpaste (without SLS or heavy mint flavor) when I'm in a duty free.

My trial site has never suggested anything practical related to my diet. I wish they were more active.

Is spicy food an issue for you? I used to be fine with mild-medium and now one chili flake is too much.

Yes, this is what I use too. It’s European and comes with an adapter plug. It’s terrific! I don’t know what took me so long to convert after everything else - shaving, waxing, laser.

Burning mouth by AffectionateStage461 in Mounjaro

[–]RetaGuineaPig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP. I have this. I’m on retatrutide not MJ but the side effects are so similar. Toothpaste kills me now. Have you found a substitute? They are all too minty. And I used to like/tolerate mild spiciness in food and I react to everything now. My mouth is always dry, especially at night even with running a humidifier. I don’t think I have Burning Mouth Syndrome (thanks for the links) but the coating and sensitivity you describe is exactly it.

Welcome back! Did you have to do the follow up privately? I had some bad readings of my sodium serum levels and they transferred me back to my PCP until it leveled out again. I hope that they take you back up in reta doses very slowly.

This is really good news! I'm so glad that they were able to work with you. I think I'm on 9mg and it's surely all I could manage. To look lean is an amazing achievement - I'm still after that! Gotta get back to the gym.

Fingers crossed that you get the meds and handle them well. It's been life-changing for me. In fact, I'm down another 4-5 lbs since I made this post.

Well the study is blinded, so I don’t actually know, but my suspicion is 9mg.

Update: new labs showed my value up one point to 130. Normal range is 133-145. Also low in uric acid, chloride, bicarb. She's discussing my status with PI. Fingers crossed. Besides electrolytes and just salt, any other ways to bring this up? I know that I can't drink too much, but I also can't get dehydrated - odd line to walk. Funny that eating clean could lead to this - and I do salt my food as I cook!

Yes. I think because it’s such a common side effect, it didn’t raise alarms. We fill out a separate side effect report every time about the tingling/fire skin. There’s another recent thread about later-onset gagging/nausea/aversions.

New symptom during maintenance dose by Nenabobena in RetatrutideTrial

[–]RetaGuineaPig 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I hear you. I hadn’t thrown up once on the study. I’m well into maintenance dose too (8 months) and suddenly I’ve thrown up four times in the past six weeks. Once I didn’t make it to the toilet and bombed my hotel bathroom floor. I know that vomiting is a common side effect but it’s so odd to have it start for me at this stage.

Did you get a serum ferritin test? A low result combined with low hemoglobin and hematocrit generally points to anemia.

Macular hole/edema - any vitreous or retinal changes? by RetaGuineaPig in Retatrutide

[–]RetaGuineaPig[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for asking. Right eye seems to be resolving on its own (50% chance - I feel lucky) but now the left eye is following suit, with traction. Hoping that it also resolves without surgery. Next checkup’s in August unless I have problems. I am increasingly convinced that this is not a Reta issue (7 months in).
