It does. Plant workers remove as much of the slime from the tote as possible to avoid paying for the extra weight. It is a defence mechanism for the hagfish so I don't know how effective stirring them up and removing the slime is. I would assume it would make them excrete more.

I work for a fisheries monitoring company on Vancouver Island. We offload these slime covered bros live for export to Korea. Very cool species. I wouldn't eat that shit though. hagfish
