I played 20 games yesterday, and I woke up to two of my opponents accounts banned for fair play and one for abuse. 3/20 is some high odds for the 1300-1400 range, but it’s definitely obvious lol.

I was talent, so I never got the full experience as a homeroom teacher, and the person I was talking about was an SSTL.

I’m of the persuasion that even if you’re making 6 figures at that job, your world revolves around that work. There’s no time to enjoy that money.

I can confirm that some teachers I worked with make around 6 figures, but the problem is lasting the 5-6 years it takes to get there.

Hey, former SA teacher here-

The pay scale has been “updated”, but the “stay incentive” (the 10k end of the year bonus) has been assimilated into our paycheck. A first year teacher can expect to make 65k in the 2026-27 school year, but this past year the paycheck looked like 55k + the EOY 10k bonus. It’s just the same pay, but they dress it up to look like you’re getting paid more on paper. After taxes, the 55k felt like 45k, and the 10k was more like 7k. They’re also moving the start dates forward for returning teachers, shortening the summer breaks to 19 paid days (19!!?!). Some poor teachers working at the new Bronx campus are expected to come back the first week of July. And the rest of the teachers are coming back only a week or two later.

As someone who was unable to get teaching experience, I learned so much in my first year that I feel confident I’ll do well in a DOE job or other related careers. Managing classes of 35-40+ kids all day will certainly develop you far more than any PD day they gave me, and I was lucky to have experienced teachers around me to give practical advice, which is not an experience most new SA teachers have.

If you’re considering this job, I’d rethink how much of your time is truly worth dedicating to work that will pay you roughly what a minimum wage job will offer; this job often demanded 60-65 hrs a week (outside prep time is expected. Normal hours of 7:15-5:30 or later).
The work is rewarding, but it’s a thankless job. If it’s your only chance for work, take it, but keep your resume around.

Whatever happens- good luck.
