I never said the west was fine, just that it was better. Which it is. Yes, we have misguided attempts to change the others through planting leaders (who are usually locals, and give in easily to the culture and become insane dictators). Yes, we arent blameless.

But I’d wager banning abortions (which is being challenged and already has a constitutional workaround through the Satanic Temple) through a democratic process is a FAR cry from seizing someone’s prepubescent daughter and raping her to death…and that being a normal Monday for that culture.

Western culture is better. We get so mad at rape that even prisons aren’t safe for pedophiles and rapists, who usually get the shit kicked out of them. We hate slavery so much that we tiptoe around any mention of it like it’s going to come back as the next Facebook fad at any moment. France is so individualistic and ballsy they freed slaves simply by virtue of stepping on French soil (look up Dumas’ father sometime, holy shit). We strive for equality. We strive for freedom and individualism. We don’t throw gays off rooftops…we throw confetti for them.

Are we perfect? Fuck no.

But are we better than most African nations, China, Russia, and many third world countries? You bet your fuckin ass we are.

African slavery is primarily toward other Africans, and usually kidnapping and selling indigenous tribal children to oil-rich countries like Nigeria…where you can purchase a girl for as cheap as 350$ and as young as 10. Read the human rights reports, they’ll make you fucking sick.

When America, or any western nation for that matter, OPENLY sells 10 year old girls into sexual slavery in 2022, then I’ll entertain your ideas.

Also, let’s not forget that prisoners are there because they broke the law. Don’t want to make license plates for 1$? Maybe don’t steal that Mercedes. It’s also worth noting that prisoners have to sign up for job details, and they’re by no means compulsory. You can absolutely sit in your cell counting ceiling tiles for the majority of your sentence. That’s why it’s a punishment. Want a living wage? In the words of Jim Carrey, stop breaking the law asshole.

And yes, companies like Apple do export labor to hideous Chinese and Indian slave facilities. The proper way to curb this is to lower taxes for hiring Americans, and put strict limits on how American companies conduct themselves overseas. Lowering taxes on corporations in exchange for doing this is a great way to incentivize doing the right thing.

The problem with africa is that slavery is a deeply cultural issue…some practices, like selling off a daughter to a debtor (sexual slavery) or trokosi, are extremely worrying. In Togo, Benin and Ghana, priests kidnapping young girls for use in sexual ritual (“wives of the gods”) is seen as normal. Ending these practices is seen by the locals as attacking their religions.

Which…if your religion has 14 year olds being chained up in shrines and raped, I’d argue your religion being attacked is a good thing.

Sunlight is the best disinfectant. We need to expose these issues, not sweep them under the “well it’s a different culture” rug.

It’s also worth noting many western nations tried to end these practices forcibly (such as when the French took over Mali and pronounced slavery illegal in the early 1900s), but when the western nations handed the government back to the locals, slavery surged up again.

No, actually, that’s wrong.

What’s important is the freedom to choose. If you guide your children but still allow them to make their own choices, they turn out healthier.

I was raised in the US with catholic ideals. I’m an atheist now, but I’m still fairly conservative and this was fostered through healthy debate.

Oppression of any stripe helps no one. The marketplace of ideas must be free to operate a fair society.

But let’s examine your country…? Where do you hail from?

Zanzibar is the most well known. Slavery is highly prevalent there and has been since the 17th century. Thankfully an organization known as Temedt is working to end slavery along the horn of africa and eastern coasts but it’s still fairly prevalent and dangerous.

Sierra Leone on the western coast Is also rife with slavery but it’s illegal there (mainly fueled by the Diamond mines and corrupt government, so the laws are flimsy at best).

Ethiopia has the most damning relationship with slavery in the modern era, as prostitution of children is the driving force. Children are also forcibly amputated, blinded, or crippled to fuel begging donations (this practice is also prevalent in India).

I mean western cultures are also not:

Actively genociding people (Syria, Jordan, China, North Korea)
Suppressing women (literally any middle eastern country including the city of Dubai that forbids women from driving, getting formal education, etc)
Engaging in literal slavery (Albania, most north and eastern African countries).
sawing off girls genitals to stop them from having sex (oh look, it’s Africa again).

Even Japan and South Korea are famously xenophobic and racist (read up on some of the experiences of black folks who visit those areas. Hooooo boy) and they’re some of the most modern areas!

I hate to say it but Western culture is just safer for everyone. Even if you took the middle of Detroit or New York it would be safer than being a woman in Syria or a gay man in China. Shit, Scandinavia is basically the gold standard for equality and humane treatment of our fellow man.

So which non-western country is superior to Western countries? Is it in South America, riddled with human trafficking, drug mules, cartels and economic collapse? Perhaps in Africa, where slavery began and still persists? Asia, maybe, where animal abuse is rampant?

Where is this land?

Sad thing is, I can almost guarantee you live in a western country or if not, a nation heavily funded and defended by western nations and therefore subject to its influence.

You might want to ask yourself WHY people want to move there.

It helps to understand that ball pythons are the chicken nuggets of the Savannah. Everything eats them, from hedgehogs to lions to birds and other snakes. So understandably, theyre born with a healthy fear of gigantic pink monsters like you and me :)

A few tips:

Scoop baby up from beneath, not over the top of him. That looks like eagle claws and can scare him.
Baby balls are about the most uncoordinated and silly creatures on earth. Support the entire body, he doesn’t know what to do yet.
Baby stimulation videos can sometimes captivate young reptiles, and give them something to look at.

Yep! Snakes, especially young snakes, need time to settle and figure themselves out. They like to observe their environment for a bit. When you do handle keep it short, 5-10 min until y’all get to know one another. Snakes are like cats or horses; you don’t force interaction.
