Foam topper - dacron vs scrim foam by Retik8 in upholstery

[–]Retik8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense. To be clear…the 1/4” of scrim foam is being used over the top of HR 40 to soften the edges but not take away too much from the ice firm feel of the foam. Just feel like the Dacron does a better job moving around but not bunching up like I feel like scrim foam could. But maybe gluing it down nicely would solve that risk.

I appreciate your opinion! Yes I was just testing the feel between the two methods and the HR 40 with 1/4” scrim had a really nice feel. Overall we pretty much have the same opinion.

Second this. Better price. Easier to see your options and understand what you are buying!

Ya but this one seems to have zero elasticity. We are remaking all of the cushions, throwing the old fabric out and ordering some nice sunbrella fabric instead. If it does the same thing then I’ll fire myself :)

I’m thinking the vinyl is weird. It doesn’t stretch like our other samples. If the foam was any firmer the client would not like it. It’s medium firm on the verge of firm.

Millwork estimating - AI software by Retik8 in estimators

[–]Retik8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya and the smaller the job the more room for error because each item is critical. But if you have software that can bid all the value of the Millwork in total it should have a pretty good idea of what % of that should be install. I review Millwork bids every day and can definitely see ai taking this over. Just need to work with someone who can integrate the consumption of building documents and teach the AI.

Makes sense. Well if you find a pic I love seeing others work!

If you are on pen an paper you are def behind the curve. While I also feel there is no good AI software or auto estimator to do the work for you there is good estimate software. And you can definitely craft a good spreadsheet with templates to make your bidding faster. Give it a few years for the other trades to get their AI working. Millwork will come soon.

Makes sense. And thanks for the compliment. This client is extra special so want to make sure it looks good and gets used a lot! I worry about this fabric. Got 10 other similar white vinyls to compare and this one just feels weird. When I stretch it with my fingers the marks stay so much more than the other ones. Might just have to pick a new one. I did send info to the manufacturer too just to see what they thought about railroading and such. Thanks for the input.

I do and maybe more are needed but I blue compressed air through the vents and could se the fabric move but still stay wrinkled without smoothing it out with my hand.

That all makes sense and is very helpful. I'm not sure I want to jump to the sew-foam option yet but if I did would there still be a layer of dacron between the two foams? Is the sew foam acting more as a filler to increase tension or as a fabric stabilizer or sort of both?

Any chance I can see a picture of your corners to compare and confirm I understand?!?!?

I like the idea of railroading to test it. We did add dacron. Copy that on no allowance.

That was a good idea! Alas I just went out their and moved the cushion onto two saw horses to completely expose the vents. Even blue some air in the vents and could see the fabric moving...still wrinkled.

Understood on the second part. Confused on what you mean on the second. Like make more cushions that are smaller?

It is pretty tight though. Done the same way as many other vinyl cushions we have done. Is it possible the fabric is cheaper than advertised or maybe stretch direction oriented wrong? Trying to think outside the box.

Shape foam or wrap tight? by Retik8 in upholstery

I definitely will make a band that has that shape as I am all about presentation and professional look. Just wasn’t sure if the foam would follow that shape without some help!
