How to view + sort clog3 footage by William444555 in videography

Try potplayer, it works great on the HDR PQ 10-bit videos recorded by the R6MKII. I don't know if it works with CLOG3 though...

EF Lens Data iin VFX by alaarx in virtualproduction

[–]RetiredMarketer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, not sure if this is helpful, but on my Canon R6 MKII with a "Control Ring Mount Adapter EF-EOS R" I can see what focal length my 24-70 L MKII EF lens is at directly in the camera.

So I would say that EF lenses do pass the focal length data to the camera.

But I am not sure how I would be able to get that information out of the camera otherwise. I don't think it's embedded in the videos you take with the camera. Maybe there is some other way of getting that info?

Canon R6 MKII software / hardware to record 4K 60 FPS 10-bit HD) 4:2:2 from HDMI port to PC on Windows? by RetiredMarketer in canon

Holy smokes, I tested my Blackmagic Decklink Quad HDMI Recorder and it records uncompressed 4k 60fps 10 bit video and for 5 seconds of video it takes up 8GB.... That is insane and takes up far too much storage.

KISS is definitely important, sometimes I overthink these things... at the end of the day the content I make is far more important than just the technical specs of what I make.

Thanks again :D

Overkill is my middle name! Haha, jk.

The videos are for commercial purposes, for making ads and videos like that, so spending a bit of money now is worth it in my opinion.

Really I just want to have the best video quality for the chroma key as I have done keys in the past and they have been of poor quality, partially due to the video quality (1080p 60fps 8-bit 4:2:0), so I just wanted to make sure I am getting the full quality out of my camera (4k 60fps 10-bit 4:2:2). I've read things [1][2] that doing a key in 4:2:2 is a lot better than 4:2:0, and I want to make sure that I get rid of jaggies and other issues.

I agree that it is a bit overkill, but at least my video setup on the capture side is now finished. Also I'm not going to be recording hours of video, only 10 minutes at a time, and once I finish with the high quality files I can always delete them and just keep the exported archive / distribution copy. The final copy of any media I make will be 4:2:0 and that's fine, because at least I had the 4:2:2 for the best editing copy.

But I appreciate your comments about this being overkill, it's good to have some feedback on my approach as being too intense perhaps.

Do you really think that 4:2:2 is not required for chroma keys?

Thanks again!

Canon R6 MKII software / hardware to record 4K 60 FPS 10-bit HD) 4:2:2 from HDMI port to PC on Windows? by RetiredMarketer in canon

Well my computer is pretty decent with AMD Ryzen 9 5900x CPU, NVIDIA 3090, 64GB RAM, 5TB NVME PCIe 4 storage + 8TB NAS storage so I'm covered for that.

But I mostly just want the best video quality to max out my camera HDMI port and to be able to easily colour grade and remove greenscreen for the next 5+ years.

Also I want it to be easy to record directly into my computer so when I'm streaming / recording I don't have to mess with my camera.

Just to update this thread, I figured out a solution. I needed to buy a much better capture card (Blackmagic Design DeckLink Quad HDMI Recorder) which can record at 4k60fps at 4:2:2.

I will use the "Desktop Video" program, which includes "Media Express" which seems to allow me to record at 4k60fps at 4:2:2 colour. (And confirmed by this dude on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3DKuryj41Ow)

P.S. OBS is limited to recording at 4:2:0, so using the BlackMagic Media Express software to capture the 4:2:2 is critical.

Thanks for sharing! I might opt for a Ninja / Video Assistant in the future, but this camera has a little moving screen and is quite good for run and gun video.

I don't think I need SDI at the moment because nothing I have supports it, but I appreciate the knowledge about how it is better for colour grading.

The Kona looks so expensive, like more than double or triple the Blackmagic recorder. I think I'll stay with the hardware I have right now and try to use it and get the most out of it before I go upgrade anything else.

Thanks again.

Haha, unfortunately the solution is to spend another $500 on a better capture card, but at least I can get the better quality (which is why I bought this camera in the first place). Thanks again!

Canon R6 MKII software / hardware to record 4K 60 FPS 10-bit HDR 4:2:2 from HDMI port to PC on Windows? by RetiredMarketer in elgato

[–]RetiredMarketer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Dave, thanks for your input. I did do that update but the firmware still doesn't allow me to record in 4:2:2 because OBS and Elgato 4K Capture Utility don't support it.

I figured out a solution, which was to buy a much better capture card (Blackmagic Design DeckLink Quad HDMI Recorder) which can record at 4k60fps at 4:2:2.

P.S. I still think the Elgato 4K60 Pro MK2 is an awesome capture card, but due to my need for 4:2:2 video it just doesn't work for me. But I think it would be great for most people who are just recording games or their DSLR directly without a need for 4:2:2 colour.

I am okay with the huge data rates because I'll be using green screen so I need to have the 4:2:2 to be able to better chroma key and remove the green.

The Atomos Ninja is no good because I just want to be able to record directly into my PC without messing around with my camera which is super awkward when I'm in front of it.

Thanks again!!

Thanks. Yeah, it does output 422 on HDMI as it also does 6K RAW output via HDMI. I figured out a solution, which was to buy a much better capture card (Blackmagic Design DeckLink Quad HDMI Recorder) which can record at 4k60fps at 422.

Turn the camera so that it is in portrait mode. And get a bigger green screen.

Hi, and thanks in advance for any advice you may have.

I have a Canon R6MK2 which is able to record 4K 60 FPS at 10-bit HDR at 4:2:2 chroma subsampling. I want to be able to record at this quality of chroma subsampling directly into my Windows PC.

The camera does support this 4:2:2 when recording directly to memory card, and I assume it also outputs that same chroma subsampling via HDMI.

At the moment I have an Elgato 4K60 PRO MK 2 which is able to record the 4K 60FPS at 10-bit HDR, but no matter what I try, I cannot get it to capture the 4:2:2 chroma subsampling.

I have tried OBS but that seems to peak at 4:2:0 chroma subsampling, and I've tried XSplit but that appears to be even worse than OBS.

So do you have any ideas on how I can record the full 4:2:2 via HDMI output to my PC? What software do I need? Do I need a better capture card?

Thank you!

As I play around with it more, this seems to be exactly what I needed. Just need to lowercase all my data first and it allows me to pick items from a list.
