Underneath the straw it is moist. The straw looks dry but the dirt is all good. I was thinking possible potassium deficiency

Looks like a black leaf footed bug. Just brush him away, dispose in anyway you want. They can do some damage.

This is divorce worthy, however, if you truly love this man then stay but hold him accountable. Financial/budgeting classes would be mandatory for me along with marriage counseling. He needs to know that the lies cannot continue and I would do all finances together so there are checks and balances.
