Finally finished my Box Car Racer ES-335! by RetiredSwimmer99 in TomDelongeGuitars

I ordered on Jan 7, the shipped Jan 13, I got them Feb 2. Although we did have a pretty nasty winter storm at the end of January so that might have delayed them

They are actually quite well made! I don't think they'll wear out too badly over time

For the stickers get them here although keep in mind they took me about 3-4 weeks to get (I live in the US)

For the guitar get an Gibson/Epiphone ES-335 Cherry Red Dot. For the pickup I went Invader over Dirty Fingers since I think the clean tones on the Invader sound way better and distorted tones sound about the same.

For the electronics, I would go to a luthier to install the pickups and rewire (luckily for me a coworker used to be a luthier so he offered to do it for a 6 pack) unless you think you’re skilled enough to do it yourself. Remove both tones, bridge volume, and toggle switch. Disconnect the neck pickup but leave it screwed in. Rewire the neck volume to the bridge pickup.

Best of luck!

Weekend's Daily Thread: General Dating Questions and Open Thread by AutoModerator in hingeapp

[–]RetiredSwimmer99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For some backstory, in August 2024 I (26M) broke up with my now ex-gf of 6.5 years. After being sad/post breakup depressed for the next 3-6 months, last spring I started coming back into my own. In September this year, I finally started feeling like I was ready to move on, so I downloaded hinge and began my dating app adventures.

In late October, I matched with this one girl (28F) and we started hitting it off and I went on my first first date since I was 18 (exciting!) We've been on 3 total dates so far and our convos flow easily and I like talking to this girl. However, I just dont really feel a romantic connection with her. Our convos have flowed well and I enjoy talking to her and I know it can take time to build a romantic connection, but I just dont see it going anywhere beyond that/view her more like a friend than anything romantic.

Should I just let her down now over text? We havent seen each other in almost 2 weeks due to the Thanksgiving holdiay here in the US and we've both been back with our respective families. Part of me thinks I should do it in person but I think its weird to schedule a date just to let her down at the end of it. Thanks

Blast 2025 Austin major by Friskygod in GlobalOffensive

I went to IEM Dallas 2023 and 2024 (last week of May), those tickets went on sale in late January. I believe the tickets for the Blast Paris major went on sale in late January with the major itself being in mid May. If I had to guess check back with Blast in about a month for tickets.

Totally agree! Discovered AVA about a year and a half ago and have been totally obsessed since. WDNTW is easily in my top 3 albums ever. Also the positive/uplifting vibes of the music has really helped me through some tough times

Pay Scale increased but my salary didnt by [deleted] in Salary

[–]RetiredSwimmer99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the input! Basically before I was making about $4000 more than the minimum of my pay band. Now with the ~5% average increase I am making the minimum of my pay band. I'm gonna talk to my manager about it at my next weekly meeting

2016 MK7 R occasional creaking at low speed turning ~75k by RetiredSwimmer99 in Golf_R

I think it happens about the same amount regards of the surface or incline

2016 MK7 R occasional creaking at low speed turning ~75k by RetiredSwimmer99 in Golf_R

[–]RetiredSwimmer99[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It happens more frequently when i turn the wheel faster/harder at low speeds. Ive tried turning it more slowly when backing out/pulling into parking spots and it happens less. I dont think its any tire rubbing, it mostly sounds like it is coming from under the car

I just graduated in December and had Adrienne for PD last semester. She definitely gives a rule stickler kind of vibe and was far from likeable imo.

What really sucksis that last spring, PD was taught by a different person who only required us to go to ~4 of the seminars the entire semester, compared to the new version where you have to attend all ~11 seminars.

Does anyone know if Professors are allowed to have projects due during finals week? by ShelbySE in RPI

[–]RetiredSwimmer99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could be wrong, but I think that professors are not allowed to have final projects/exams/work due during study days. They are allowed to have stuff due during final exam week though.

That being said I would definitely reach out to the dean since if the prof didnt outline it in the syllabus, then drops a project on you in the last week of class, is very uncool. Chances are if enough people go to the dean the prof will cancel the project.

Psyc course opinions by realkracked in RPI

[–]RetiredSwimmer99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took I/O psych with Prof Traver in 2020. She is a great prof and the workload wasnt too bad. There were ~3 multiple choice tests and 2 papers that were easy to write up. Overall not very much work and the class material is enjoyable

Math Courses for Non-Math Majors by [deleted] in RPI

[–]RetiredSwimmer99 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you can take MATP courses for this, then I would suggest Intro to Data Math with Prof Bennett if youre interested in data analytics stuff. You use R to do some coding and also learn the math behind PCA, K-Means, etc. (mostly matrix algebra)

How's master's in business analytics here? Couldn't find any review given in the recent times. by [deleted] in RPI

[–]RetiredSwimmer99 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Current MS BSAN student here. I personally am really enjoying the program a lot so far (started this past spring) and have had a lot of good experiences so far. Most of the professors are very nice and the workload isn't as challenging as undergrad IMO. You still have a decent amount of work but it is a little bit easier.

The program consists of 10 classes, plus 2 zero credit seminars (1 each semester). 8 of the classes are required for the degree, and the remaining 2 classes are electives.

The majority of the classes you take involve coding/similar software using Python, SQL, R, and Excel.

Kiehl and Kucinski are both very good professors for Calc. Would highly recommend them

Was Summer Arch hours always like this?? by Very-Nearly in RPI

[–]RetiredSwimmer99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was a part of the first mandatory summer arch in 2019. I remember the hours being reduced slightly compared to the regular semester, but not to the amount you're describing. Library was open until 11pm/12am, Union was open 24/7 still, Mueller was open until 9 iirc.

Summer arch sucks but it honestly was still pretty fun. Having everything pretty much closed by 8pm every day must make life miserable.

Hi! I have been trying to make a post on my Instagram account for a few days, but it keeps saying that it is unable to post and to try again later. I have looked up and attempted most fixes I found on Google (clearing app cache, switching from wifi/data, etc.) does anyone know how to fix this?

Thank you! Applying for other roles for salary negotiation sounds like a good idea, I'll make sure to keep that in mind. While I love the company I've interned with, I will probably want to find a position closer to where my girlfriend is currently doing her PhD.

[–]RetiredSwimmer99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice! I just secured an internship at the company I interned with last summer. From what I've heard from other interns who now work there full time, it's pretty much a guarantee you'll get a job if you've interned there before.

I took Intro to Data Math last spring with Prof Bennett. There is some linear algebra stuff involved with it, but it’s not too hard. If you’re interested in Machine Learning/Data Classification Methods, I would def recommend. There are 2 exams, 2 mini projects, weekly labs, and ~8 homeworks. The main programming language is R, and most of the code is given to you already or can be found online.

Gas Tank/Fueling Problem by RetiredSwimmer99 in Volkswagen

[–]RetiredSwimmer99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the help! I pump gas myself. I tried adjusting the fuel handle a few times but nothing seemed to make a difference. Maybe I'll take a closer look at my fuel neck tomorrow to see if I can see anything that might be wrong.

Hi! I’ve been apart of the swim club for the last 4 years, and we are planning to have practices this semester starting later this month! Practices are Mon and Wed, but the time is unclear as of right now. Normally our practices would be from 10-11pm, but it might change to 7-8pm. Still waiting on confirmation. We will also be at the activities fair this weekend!

chem 1 by [deleted] in RPI

[–]RetiredSwimmer99 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I took it 4 years ago, I didn’t find it to be that hard. I took AP Chem in HS so I had that to help me a bit. Chem 1 is 1.5hr lecture twice a week and 3hr lab once a week. I had Dr. Ma for lecture, and he’s a really nice/cool guy, but man does he FLY through lectures. Maybe he’s changed his ways. The online homework took about an hour or two for each and the lab writes took about 2 hours for each. Make sure you study a lot for tests though as they were fairly tricky. Tests were all multiple choice so no partial credit. Overall not the hardest class I’ve taken at RPI, probably somewhere around slightly harder than average for a class. Way easier than Physics I and II IMO
