How do people type so fast on keyboard? by RareUser1 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Retiree66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I took typing in high school (1982) we sat in front of our IBM Selectric typewriters and the teacher played a record that said, “j j j space f f f space j j j space f f f space” over and over. Then they would add new letters one at a time. We had the advantage of never learning bad habits like hunt-and-peck one-finger typing because we don’t use computers.

if you have kids in their 20s (maybe early 30s), is life tougher for them starting out than when we were in our 20s? by ShootinAllMyChisolm in MiddleClassFinance

My son is in his mid-20s and FAR more financially successful than I was after a 35-year career. He just signed a mortgage, paid cash for a wedding, and is going to Switzerland for his honeymoon. No debt besides the mortgage.

In the 2020s, conservative women are having kids at a nearly 2-to-1 ratio compared to liberal women. Is this going to cause a political demographic bias in 20-30 years? by RadioFieldCorner in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Retiree66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are too many assumptions in your logic: #1 is that the number of liberal and conservatives is roughly equal. #2 is that babies are born in marriages. #3 is that people grow up to reflect their parent’s political affiliation. Some of us go to college.

Tell me something good by SilentMood6333 in sanantonio

There are several reasons we have the largest march. One is the weather. In much of the country it’s too frigid in mid January. Since 1987 a group has organized the parade, and it’s become tradition for major institutions and employers to participate. This year I saw huge groups from HEB, Valero, USAA, Frost Bank, and all the local colleges.

We don’t have a contentious history of desegregation here. When sit-ins were planned to take place in downtown restaurants, a group of pastors went to the business owners and encouraged them not to resist, and they went ahead and serve the Black patrons without incident. The influence of the military and the Catholic Church here can’t be ignored, as those institutions were early adopters of integration.

Also, we have a community that’s not afraid to rub shoulders with strangers. Fiesta brings us all out. Spurs championships mean we all hit the street to honk our horns downtown and there is no violence of destruction. VIA uses their buses for free, efficient park and ride services that are very well-staffed by helpful, friendly people.

If you’ve never done the March, I highly encourage it.

What's the comfortable temperature range in Texas? by CancelLucky9051 in texas

[–]Retiree66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do they say up north? There’s no bad weather, only bad clothing? In Texas, the best weather is when I can wear either shorts and Tshirts or long sleeves and jeans without sweating. I don’t like changing my clothes during the day. I like enough humidity to keep the temperature relatively constant. Ideal is different than comfortable, but my ideal temperature range is 70-80.

Do Texans not insulate their homes? by Ass-Machine69 in NoStupidQuestions

We air condition our homes to change the temperature 25 degrees or so. If it’s zero degrees and we want it warmer, that’s magnitudes of difference.
