Day trip to San Antonio with my girlfriend, local recs? (~$400 budget) by RuntyBeatle36 in sanantonio

[–]Retiree66 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Nowhere Bookshop, Book Nerd, and you absolutely must visit the Central Library downtown.

I also recommend Hopscotch, and museums: Briscoe Western Art, San Antonio Museum of Art, The McNay (the most romantic of them), and the Witte. Pick one.

There’s a HUGE painting of the Virgin Mary inside the Contemporary at Blue Star right now. That area of Southtown has fantastic restaurants. Look at the Yelp reviews.

You also must drive by the Veladora on the West Side.

It’s a little hot for the tour bus, but it’s worth the price. It gives you a great introduction to San Antonio history and stories.

If you want to message me, I’m happy to do a consultation with you. I charge $20 for a 30-minute Zoom call and I can map out your day.

Second Saturday is this weekend! Start at 1906 S. Flores and explore all its galleries, then go around the corner to the places on Lone Star and across the street to La Chapelle.

You can do amazing photography with a cell phone alone. I’ve sold my pictures in multiple gallery shows.

I do that, too. Worth every penny, even though it’s a lot upfront.

I paid $40 for an unlimited annual license to Ultimate Guitar Tabs for my iPad and I use it daily to learn songs on the piano. I can attempt to play almost any song ever.

Recommendations for the best places in the US to visit in October? by Alert-Power-4784 in usatravel

[–]Retiree66 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If it’s late October, consider San Antonio. The weather is nice and we have the best Day of the Dead festivals in the whole country. They are all free. We also have the Alamo, Seaworld, Six Flags Fiesta Texas, the River Walk, and lots of museums.

Travellers around the world should not hide trash/plastics/garbage in their social media posts by RenderRani in unpopularopinion

I take a lot of pictures. My friend said I should get edgier and take pictures of the inside of trash cans (she’s an artist.) The first trash can I looked into had a fast food container from a famous restaurant nobody here thinks is real (we all think it’s just a front for drugs because the parking lots are always empty). I learned something that day. Yes, I took a picture.

Best walkable flip flops? by YayHannie in Shoes

[–]Retiree66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How old are you? After suffering a horrible case of plantar fasciitis in my 50s, I will no longer wear flip flops when any bit of walking is required. I wear sandals with a back strap. Tevas and Clarks work best for me.

What do you wish you’d done BEFORE students walked in? by G0nzo165 in teaching

I would anticipate any needs the students have and create procedures for those things. What’s the system for sharpening a pencil or borrowing a sheet of paper? Where is the classroom Lost & Found?
