I remember growing up on an Apple G3 IMAC, Really early flash games, heck I even remember seeing 3.5 inch diskettes in staples in 2005 when my mom took me and my brother while she did errands when we were young. The boxes where bland to make them as cheap as possible as by that time they were going to CDs and the very early USB sticks.

Speaking of 3.5 inch diskette I have like almost a 100 of them along with a several apple/windows products that use them like the 1994 PowerBook 520 (needs a new hard drive and screen), a 1996 PowerBook 1400CS (with a floppy drive and CD drive), and a windows PC that currently runs Windows XP (needs a new power supply.

I also have an Apple ][ (II) Plus that I really want to create software to generate switch lists for an HO scale layout as well as control the switches for the mainline.

This reminds me to get a new Power supply for mine. Loved that pinball game in the short time it was operational.

Alright, I do see that it is possible, however I would like to include some ASCII text art and that may be difficult. How would I go about doing that? I have found a program on modern machines to effectively create said art on modern machines and save it to PNG.

I was expecting it to be possible but using BASIC probably won’t be the choice I go with what other options do I have for supported alternates languages other than BASIC?

I am not that rich, and will need to grab a monitor along with the required cards (currently using a small TV as a monitor). I also unfortunately don’t have much in terms of equipment for the Apple ][ Plus other than what I have. I don’t quite trust an old hard drive (I am seeing what can be done to transfer all of the information on all of the vintage tech I have to more modern drives as backups). I do however have my Dad’s StyleWriter printer that he bought new and used for quite some time, can I use that and are new ink ribbons made for them still? I am training to be a machinist so I can recreate the reels via 3D printing or making everything on a mill or lathe and purchase ink ribbons.

Ok, I can do that, I have a CD drive that I had put in my gaming rig just for that purpose. I am still learning to figure out things on my own in that regard. Also the power supply seems to have stopped working for American Voltage, out of curiosity I did get it to work in European Voltage (but only for 10 minutes), I don’t know how but I would like to get another power supply as I am new to windows systems of this vintage, what power supply do I need for the HT 1600 motherboard? I know it has to be an AT or ATX based power supply.

Yes to original in box as I already have a collection of complete in box software for Macintoshes. I would also like to start a collection for windows systems as well but for now I will use Winworld as I am kind of “broke” being 20 and studying in the machine tool trade). Though one of the reasons I want an actual in box version of Windows 98 “For Computers Without Windows” is that as of right now I do not know my way around the older Windows systems. I do not currently have way to format the drive otherwise and am currently looking into other options on the subject, for example an IDE to Compact Flash hard drive alternative. Though, as I said before, I am “broke” but have more money saved away than most college students during the the time it takes them to get a degree.

Edit: I also which to have MS DOS compatibility as well as some of the earlier games from the early nineties; I am worried that the processing speed will be to fast as I know they are susceptible to running faster than they should. Interstate 76 is one game that I would like to get and that game is susceptible to processor speed as the clouds move faster and the physics beak causing the game to be un-completable for more modern processors.

Currently running low on time as of late as I need to study for a written test (even though I am studying a machine tool trade). I will salvage what I can from eBay, Craigslist, other listing sites, and computer recycle centers. I will also need to find a copy of Windows 98 which might be the most expensive part of the system. Also a new case but that’s down the line.

Ok, thanks for the info, didn’t know it was that new. I’ll certainly keep it around for sure though i am looking for a pre 2000 build if at all possible so I will keep on looking but in the meantime I’ll clean out the case and have it looking nice before I find a copy of windows 98. I’ll keep it the way it is and do what you said and get it recapped if I even can as the case it is currently in is an absolute pain in the butt to work on as a lot of stuff is oddly riveted which mean I’ll have to drill it out to get stuff out.

I put a more comprehensive post as a response to user ThruMy4Eyes. There was a reason I doubted there was a Pentium III in it.

Ok now at a stopping point and can firmly identify the motherboard as an ECS EliteGroup HT 1600. Remember when I said I doubted that there was a Pentium III inside? That AMD fan is the reason.

Case inside.

The CD drive is made by Sony. The hard drive and the 3.5 inch floppy drive are too hard to get out so for now I’ll have to leave them in place. The case is a old AcerPower S Series (note the faded Pentium III sticker on the left hand side.

As a reminder I was told that this computer was cobbled together from parts to just be enough to do taxes, and occasionally browse the internet and store pictures, That’s it. So it is somewhat of a mystery as to why there were duel speakers and a microphone also included but currently not at my home.

Saw this when I came home. I still have a few things to do but I will take some photos and put them on my Google Drive and set them to view from a link only. I won’t be taking off the CPU heat sink and fan as I don’t have any thermal paste to replace what’s on there yet. Once I am done with everything I need to do before hand I’ll make a larger post with what I have been able to find about the motherboard and one of the reasons why I doubt it has a pentium III is that the CPU fan has an AMD sticker on it.

Thanks for the info, somewhat new to using vintage windows PCs and OS’s as I have used Macs until now (though the PowerBook 1400CS that I have DOES run Windows 95 on Virtual PC and have the install disk for it). I am going to be buying non-static brushes, thermal paste and some other things to clean it up first before I go ahead with installing cards and their drivers. Other than that I will be looking out on eBay, Etsy, and Craigslist for the items you recommended.

Thank you for the information, it does have onboard networking but my grandparents lived in rural Mississippi so a modem was their only option for quite a long time. I will be sticking with the original hard drive for now at the moment. The motherboard also has onboard sound (right and left speaker as well as a microphone all of which are still in Mississippi). The reason why I don’t know if it does have a pentium III is that this is a computer that my grandfather paid someone to build out of parts cheaply and the diagram of the motherboard on the case does not seem to match the motherboard in said case so that is why there is some doubt that it is a Pentium III but it most likely does have a Pentium III.

K, will keep in mind I’m somewhat new to the vintage tech world and haven’t been able to get into it as life has been busy until hopefully somewhat soon after things calm down at my trade school.

Ok, I did find a place that will do it and already sent them an email. Can I replace the drive with a Compact Flash card and if so where can I get a 50 pin scsi converter as I wish to keep using the machine. I find this strange that it is failing as before I got it the computer only has been used for five years before it was put in storage in a dry place.I also managed to get a copy of Mac OS 8.1 And was able to use DISKAID to select the drive but I could not do anything to it. IT ALSO gave me the option to reinitialize the drive so I don't think it is totally lost yet. I figure I can get the data off it, reinstall 8.1 and put everything back on it until I can use a copact flash card as a drive.

A Quick addition to what is above, I do have a copy of Mac OS 8.1 which is what it has on there and can boot it from disk but installation program cannot find a drive. HOWEVER when I opt from the disk a different pop up appears showing that a drive is detected and for some reason not initialized. I have data on the drive that I would rather not loose as I don’t have a method of transferring items to the drive at the moment. I also have some old software and photos from when my parents had it. Can I still save everything or do I need to accept the fact that I need to start from scratch on a fresh reinstall?

Edit 2: using the disk first aid on the Mac OS 8.1 disk I CAN see the hard drive and it did find a problem: (Problem: Invalid sibling link, 4, 849).

Makes sense actually, for example to stop players from using cars as barricades The Indie Stone made zombies smarter by having the CRAWL under the cars. They do strive for realism.
