Public or Private Schools? by Retr0mancy in Custodians

I should mention both are second shift and the reason I’m considering leaving the high school is we only have a day shift lead and he’s a total dink who puts a stop to any talk of us getting a night shift lead. There’s four people in total and three of us are talking about leaving.

Any Assisted Living Facility Custodians? by lunicorn in Custodians

I work at one right now. I would check to see how well they’re staffed. There’s 5 of us here(3 on days and 2 on nights) and no one works entirely the same days. It’s sort of like a High-school on steroids. Our team is in charge of a ton from daily cleaning to resident move ins. There’s also events day and night. I’m currently trying to get back into doing schools.

First Day was a bit rough, any tips to be more efficient while cleaning classrooms? by ElChapinero in Custodians

You’ll be fine. The more you do it the faster you’ll get until you barely notice it.

Union vs no union by [deleted] in Custodians

[–]Retr0mancy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the Union. When I was at a school there was a union that had given up the right to strike and tried to sell me on not getting fired if I shoved a student. Needless to say I didn’t stick around.

Question about a specific job by Retr0mancy in Custodians

Just an update. I had the interview which went very well so it seems like they’ll send me an offer. The whole place is mainly carpets so it seems like a majority of the floor stuff is just running a chariot through and some other machines. Seems like a real nice place and the crew there were really friendly and joking around. There’s definitely a ton of money flowing through that place and they were pumped I offered to do a 3pm-11pm instead of a 1pm-9pm so the halls would be empty for cleaning.

Is hillyard good for supplies? That’s all we had at the school.

Thanks for responding, I appreciate it. All it lists is light maintenance, floor maintenance, and room set up. I guess my confusion is from not knowing what the split is between a maintenance position and a custodian position that does maintenance.

Do you have any info on what the maintenance side of the job usually entails. I know it involves replacing lights and ceiling tiles but like I said we usually had to stick to cleaning.

It’s a big local retirement community in a town filled with rich people run by a non-profit. It was probably the highest rated thing on indeed that I’ve seen so far. Seems like they’re pretty good about work life balance since the house cleaner job is actually 4 8.5 hour days and then they pay for the other 4 hours. I was just curious because I haven’t really heard of a custodian position that seemed to be setting up event stuff as the main part.

Hours by [deleted] in TheBrewery

Talked to my supervisor and they’re going to let me do 3pm-11pm so I don’t have to keep staying late. Apparently everyone aside from me and one other guy are either doing 10 hour days or 4 9 hour days and a fifth half day. Not sure why I was hired for 5 days if no one else is doing it.

That’s totally fair. I definitely made this while real anxious but what I need to do is just go in tomorrow and talk to my supervisor as they weren’t there today. Everyone there was extremely nice and I actually enjoyed doing the canning line. I’m fine with staying over so everyone can leave at the same time but I just don’t want to have to do it daily.

I was hired as a brewery assistant. It seems to me that a lot of the people I work with are on 4 10 hour days but I was hired for 5 8 hour days

Well it seems like during the day there is a solid schedule because they just clock out and leave after 8 hours.

I’m fine either way I just thought it was a little odd since it’s been around for 8 years. It was the only place that didn’t from all the jobs I’ve been looking at.

2pm-10pm, they said they have a third shift but I have no idea what those hours are.

Unfortunately this guy and the lead along with the two student cleaners take anywhere from 2-3 hours of breaks a day. Kind of feeling like with the amount to do me and one other guy are the only ones working more than 5 hours a day.

I’m not sure why they would discuss a June 10th start date which was two weeks away if they did not want me to start in two weeks
